The city of Germantown has fired three former Germantown Performing Arts employees for creating "Hangman nooses". Matthew Strampe,Michael Larawer, and William Martin, according to City Administrator Patrick Lawton tied the nooses and at least one of the three stuck his head in the noose and laughed. Lawton stated that the nooses left hanging in the center compared the nooses to cross-burnings and swastikas,he also stated that "Its a symbol of hatred and bigotry.
There will be those who will suggest that the firing of these three is over reaction, but Lawton and the city of Germantown was totally correct to fire these buffoons for just being stupid. For them to even suggest that they didn't know that the appearance of nooses would be offensive to Black employees is either plain ignorance or a lie.
Many Blacks in this community that care to remember their history still remember the use of these nooses to lynch and murder both Black men and women. Many whites will suggest that Blacks should get over our history and the past that there forefathers placed on us, because they don't want to deal with the reality of the fact that much has not changed in this country when it comes to racism,just the methods.
If those of you who think that the use of nooses are not still used to try and intimidate blacks ask the Jena 6, the young Blacks who now face 22 years in jail in Jena LA. because of a school fight that happened when black students sat under the "White Only" tree. After these students sat under the tree the next day nooses appeared hanging from the tree. The rules call for school suspensions when fights occur, well the white students were suspended, and the black students placed in jail and on the 20th of this month face imprisonment.
So when you suggest that the firing was over reaction remember that the black employee that reported the noose had every right to feel threatened by the actions the fired employees. His history told him to beware.

Destruction in black America is self-inflicted

Debating capital punishment at an Ivy League university a few years ago, I was confronted with the claim that since death sentences are more often meted out in cases where the victim is white, the death penalty must be racially biased. It's a spurious argument, I replied. Whites commit fewer than half of all murders in the United States, yet more whites than blacks are sentenced to death and more whites than blacks are executed each year. (56 percent of death row inmates are white, and of the 53 murderers executed last year, 32 were white.) If there is racial bias in the system, it clearly doesn't operate in favor of whites.
But if you do choose to focus on the race of victims, I added, remember that nearly all black homicide is intraracial — more than nine out of 10 black murder victims in the United States are killed by black murderers. So applying the death penalty in more cases where the victim is black would mean sending more black men to death row.
After the debate, a young black woman accosted me indignantly. Ninety-plus percent of black blood is shed by black hands? What about all the victims of white supremacists? Hadn't I heard of lynching? Hadn't I heard of James Byrd, who died so horribly in Jasper, Texas? When I assured her that Byrd's murder by whites was utterly untypical of most black homicide, she was dubious. So I asked for an e-mail address, and promised to send her a link to the FBI's violent-crime statistics.
I thought of that young woman when I read recently about James Ford Seale, the former Mississippi Klansman sentenced last month to three life terms in prison for his role in murdering two black teenagers 43 years ago. The killing of Charles Moore and Henry Dee in 1964 was one of several unsolved civil-rights-era crimes that prosecutors in the South have reopened in recent years. Seale's trial was a vivid reminder of the days when racial contempt was a deadly fact of life in much of the country. His sentence proclaims even more vividly the transformation of America since then. White racism, once such a murderous force, is now associated mostly with feeble has-beens.
Yet many Americans, like the woman at my debate, still seem to view racial questions through an antediluvian lens. To them, it is always the 1960s: White bigotry remains a clear and present danger, and the reason so many black Americans die before their time.
But the data aren't in dispute. Though outrage over "racism" is ever fashionable, African-Americans have long had far less to fear from the violence of racist whites than from the mayhem of the black underclass.
"Do you realize that the leading killer of young black males is young black males?" asked Secretary of Health and Human Services Louis Sullivan 16 years ago. "As a black man and a father of three, this really shakes me to the core of my being."
From Georgia Congressman John Lewis, a veteran of the civil rights movement, came a similar cry of anguish. "Nothing in the long history of blacks in America," he lamented in 1994, "suggests the terrible destruction blacks are visiting upon each other today."
Happily, crime rates have declined from their 1990s peak. But it remains the case that the worst destruction in black America is self-inflicted.
In a new study, the Justice Department's Bureau of Justice Statistics confirms once again that almost half the people murdered in the United States each year are black, and 93 percent of black homicide victims are killed by someone of their own race. (For white homicide victims, the figure is 85 percent.) In other words, of the estimated 8,000 African-Americans murdered in 2005, more than 7,400 were cut down by other African-Americans. Though blacks account for just one-eighth of the US population, the BJS reports, they are six times more likely than whites to be victimized by homicide — and seven times more likely to commit homicide.
Such huge disproportions don't just happen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan famously warned 40 years ago that the collapse of black family life would mean rising chaos and crime in the black community. Today, as many as 70 percent of black children are born out of wedlock or raised in fatherless households. And as reams of research confirm, children raised without married parents and intact, stable families are more likely to engage in antisocial behavior.
High rates of black violent crime are a national tragedy, but it is the law-abiding black majority that suffers from them most. "There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life," Jesse Jackson said in 1993, "than to walk down the street and hear footsteps . . . then turn around and see somebody white and feel relieved."
It isn't an insoluble problem. Americans overcame white racism; they can overcome black crime, too. But the first step, as always, is to face the facts.

There is something troubling about the extensive coverage these firings are getting as well as the hostility being expressed. Just like the recent Beale Street incident, the media appears to be fanning the flames while presenting a one-sided picture.
The response to the firings is concerning b/c there is the implication that white people have the right to decide what is and is not offensive to black people. I also wonder if the response would be any different if the white workers had admitted a racial motive.
I don’t know anyone who works at GPAC but I suspect that there were pre-existing problems amongst the workers. If the workers were all on friendly terms, would the black worker have complained? There are subtleties that occur in the workplace which people generally ignore. Often is against the backdrop of these subtleties that an incident such as this prompts someone to complain.
The atmosphere of the workplace before this incident is something the media should be looking into.
Them crackers knew what they were doing. I guess they better stay in Germantown cause if they are scene in public they will be scorned.
The politicians and racist are trying to earn cheap points by firing people for innocent remarks. I feel bad for the unsuspecting employees who were fired. How could they have known? They are young and one recently moved here. I hope they sue and win. The media keep refering to the AA who complained but never mention his/her name. Could be another Thudius Mahem type person looking for an opportunity to avenge via a law suit from the rich guys or profit in blog hits. I think that's why the "officials" have gone overboard in this case.

What an astute observation. It is a reaction to oppression that was passed down from generation to generation and it was never healed. Therefore many so called black people think it is happening to them in real time and they feel the results in real time.
It is delusional and cannot be healed in mass as they have been led to think or better yet believe. Couple that with Dashiki Man proclaiming he is the solution, while he gets tenure at the white university as the head of the black studies program or Reverend Chick N. Bone who shouts “more Integration” as well as “more tithes” who keeps his flock stuck in a powerless situation. I think it's more the sad state of the local color that they, even gerations removed, from what SOME people in SOME regions did can't make a life for themselves in the existing opportunities. Matters that concern blacks do not necessarily concern other races.
I have been in Memphis since childhood. I associate a hangman's noose as an execution method used long ago. I have seen a large number of western movies and TV shows like 'Hang Em High'.
The last thing I associated an hangman's noose was with the lynching of blacks. Lynchings did not typically take the form of using a 'hangman's noose' which was designed to break the executed person's neck. Lynchings (from the pictures I have seen like the ones here on this blog site) are usually using rope tied in a slip knot to slowly strangle the victim.
How would you expect someone from South Dakota to associate a hangman's noose with black lynchings??? It appears blacks expect other races to obsess on items like they do. Why is that so... they only comprise approximated 12% of the total population of the U.S.
If we focus on current events, whites should be very afraid of blacks based upon crime rates being higher than other races AND being in the majority in Memphis.
You can obsess with the past if you like... I'm concerned about the present. A hangman's noose may be offensive to blacks, but black crime rates are frightful to other races and a real reason to be generally afraid of the black race.

What do you need a phuking break from, reality? Is it not true that black people in the USA have been protesting, begging and demonstrating for justice and equally for decades now? If anything, freedom, land, reparations, respect can be given to you it can be taken away. If it is a gift you didn’t earn it and you certainly didn’t take it back. You are born free; the goal is to stay free. It is the begging and demonstrating that is interesting to me.
Well has it worked for the masses of black people? Has the public educational system in its present form evolved or devolved and that question most especially applies in Memphis? Has the poverty level decreased or increased for people of color in Memphis? What about the child mortality rate certainly it has gotten better right?

That is not let them off the hook, or to embrace, love or care for them do as you like. But if I have a condition that was put into me by someone else it is not their responsibility to heal me or to make me whole or to empower myself, it is mine! I’d be a fool to expect fair treatment from the very people who propagated or benefited from the condition in the first place. That is like asking the devil not to be the devil.

Actually what happened is a gang of black youths attempted to crash a mixed race party. They were rebuffed by a girl. They became abusive and a lone white boy sprang on the group.
The group then went into the parking lot where they became involved in a fight with another group of whites. One black later claimed a bottle was broken over his head but there was no proof it ever happened.
They then went to a store and jumped a lone white boy.

Police Search For Black Mapco Robber

Surveillance photo taken from the Mapco store at 3703 Jackson. Police say a man walked into the Mapco at 3703 Jackson, stepped behind the counter and began taking cigarettes. The man is also accused of assaulting the store clerk and being armed with a large stick. He ran out of the store and got into a dark colored, four-door vehicle, possibly a Pontiac.
Police are looking for a black male, 5'11", weighing 180 pounds. He has black hair and is approximately 35 years-old. He was wearing a multi-colored shirt and shorts.

Hebron was found early Tuesday morning, September 4, suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken from 1383 Clementine to the Med where he later died.

The homeowner spoke with Eyewitness News Everywhere Reporter Brian Heap this morning, Thursday, September 06, 2007.
According to the homeowner the two men, wearing trash bags, kicked in his door and demanded money. He says the robbers took the money from his pockets and then shot him.
The homeowner was taken to the hospital and later released.

WASHINGTON - Twenty-five years after the first AIDS cases emerged, scientists have confirmed that the HIV virus plaguing humans really did originate in wild chimpanzees, in a corner of Cameroon.
Solving the mystery of HIV’s ancestry was dirty work. Scientists employed trackers to plunge through dense jungle and collect the fresh feces of wild apes — more than 1,300 samples in all.
Before that, it took seven years of research just to develop the testing methods to genetically trace the primate version of the virus in living wild chimps without hurting the endangered species.
Until now, “no one was able to look. No one had the tools,” said Dr. Beatrice Hahn of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She led the team of international researchers that reported the success in Friday’s edition of the journal Science.
“We’re 25 years into this pandemic,” Hahn said. “We don’t have a cure. We don’t have a vaccine. But we know where it came from. At least we can make a check mark on one of those.”
Scientists long have known that nonhuman primates carry their own version of the AIDS virus, called SIV or simian immunodeficiency virus. But with one exception, it had been found only in captive chimpanzees, particularly a subspecies that in the wild populates mostly West Africa.
It was not known how prevalent the virus was in chimps in the wild, or how genetically or geographically diverse it was, complicating efforts to pin down the jump from animal to man.
Hahn’s team tested chimp feces for SIV antibodies, finding them in a subspecies called Pan troglodytes troglodytes in southern Cameroon.
Chimps tend to form geographically distinct communities. By genetically analyzing the feces, researchers could trace individual infected chimps. The team found some chimp communities with infection rates as high as 35 percent, while others had no infection at all.
Every single infected chimp had a common base genetic pattern that indicated a common ancestor, Hahn said.
There are three types of HIV-1, the strain of the human virus responsible for most of the worldwide epidemic. Genetic analysis let Hahn identify chimp communities near Cameroon’s Sanaga River whose viral strains are most closely related to the most common of those HIV-1 subtypes.
“The genetic similarity was striking,” Hahn said.
Spread to urban areas
The first human known to be infected with HIV was a man from Kinshasa in the nearby country of Congo who had his blood stored in 1959 as part of a medical study, decades before scientists knew the AIDS virus existed.
Presumably, someone in rural Cameroon was bitten by a chimp or was cut while butchering one and became infected with the ape virus. That person passed it to someone else.
The Sanaga River long has been a commercial waterway, for transporting hardwood, ivory and other items to more urban areas. Eventually, someone infected made it to Kinshasa.
“How many different transmission events occurred between that initial hunter and this virus making it to Kinshasa, I don’t know. It could have been one, it could have been 10, it could have been 100,” Hahn said. “Eventually, it ended up in an urban area, and that’s where it really got going.”
Somewhere in all that spread, the virus became more deadly to people than it is to chimps, who seldom are bothered much by SIV.
The research seems to settle any question of HIV’s origin, said Dr. Anthony Fauci, the National Institutes of Health’s AIDS chief.
When tracing a virus’ evolution, “it’s important to get as close to the source as you can,” he said. “It’s of historic interest.”

I been in COGIC 48 years, and I along with quite a few others knew that Jimerson was the Bishop's son; and I feel ashamed for never raising my voice to the truth.
When Jimerson's Mother came to work in Memphis, she wanted to me a Missionary to Africa, but J.O. wanted her to stay in Memphis (guess we know why).

In the final rankings before tougher standards go into effect, DeSoto County schools all ranked in the state's top two categories under results announced Thursday.
The system's 31 schools all achieved either Level Four or Level Five -- exemplary and superior, respectively -- under the state ranking system.
The rankings are based on state testing conducted in the spring.
This year's results marked the first time since the state testing program began several years ago that the DeSoto district had no schools below Level Four. The rankings show 17 schools at Level Five and 14 at Level Four.
"We are so thrilled because our schools have worked so hard, our teachers have worked so hard, and our principals -- everybody -- has worked toward meeting these standards," said Jennifer Weeks, the district's director of accountability and research.
Teachers and staff members deserve the praise, education Supt. Milton Kuykendall said in a statement. "I am proud that all of our schools are outstanding."
In the previous school year, DeSoto had one Level Three (successful) school; 12 Level Four schools and 11 Level Five schools. The district opened several new schools last year, and all of them performed at Level Four or Five.
The school scores from last spring were announced last month, but the school levels -- based on average scores -- were not released until Thursday.
For the current year, state education officials have mandated that a tougher new state curriculum and a more difficult testing program be put in place in all of Mississippi's public schools.
As a result, Weeks and other school officials concede that the levels of some DeSoto schools might drop in next spring's testing.
However, Weeks said teachers and administrators are working hard to avoid any decline in scores and rankings.
"I know that they are putting all the effort that they have into helping us maintain these levels," she said.
A separate evaluation shows five schools -- Chickasaw, Hernando Hills, Oak Grove Central and Pleasant Hill elementaries and Olive Branch Intermediate -- exceeded expected achievement growth by 10 percent or more. These schools deserve special recognition, Weeks said.
With one exception, all of the district's schools met the state's adequate yearly progress (AYP) standards under the federal No Child Left Behind program in math and language arts.
Weeks said Olive Branch Middle School, which drew a Level Five rating, did not reach AYP in math. However, she said the lack of AYP involved the procedures in handling a special education subgroup at the school and did not reflect any lack of achievement progress at the school.
The state has an achievement level index to show where each school falls within the accountability levels. The index numbers are not scores but are based on scores, Weeks said.
The index guide is: Level One, low performing, 100-199; Level Two, under-performing; Level Three, successful, 300-399; Level Four, exemplary, 400-499; Level Five, superior, 500-600.
