Employees of MLGW are signing petitions stating that the customer owned utility company is practicing
unfair and unjust labor practices. The issues concerning the employees are,harassment,low moral,training issues,retaliation,safety issues,testing issues,hostile work environment, unfair lunch &breaks,and unresolved grievances.
The employees are forwarding the petitions to the IBEW Local 1288, Memphis City Council,and the MLGW Board.

These so-called "employees" aren't going to get any sympathy from the public. Every MLG&W employee I've ever encountered was consistently rude, lazy, and unhelpful. No wonder this city is in such sad shape.
As far as I am concerned, they should outsource all the customer service to India. Then, citizens will get REAL CUSTOMER SERVICE and respect, without waiting an hour to talk to someone who couldn't care less.

The Union put some flyers out yesterday stating that the Memphis City Council will be at our Union Hall Saturday, July 12, 2008, 4000 Clearpool circle at a special meeting. This is a good thing. I also heard that our Union Leadership spoke at the last City Council meeting in front of all 13 council persons to let them know how terrible us employees are being treated and How Jerry Collins have refused to allow any resolution to any of our problems. I also heard that the Union Leadership gave each and every City Council person a copy of the petition sign by 98% of the employees in the Customer Care Center at the same time of their speech stating the unfair Labor practices. I looked at the MLGW board agenda today and it stated that Racist Chris Bieber is going to speak at the meeting Thursday at 1:30 about the Customer Care Center (Call Center) that is majority Blacks -VS- the Commercial Resource Center (Call Center) which is majority White. The issue here is that the Majority white Center employees are treated like Queens and the Majority Black center is treated like slaves or like dogs by Chris Bieber and Jerry Collins. Chris Bieber is going to address those issues before the MLGW Board of Commissioners. Allowing Chris Bieber to address this isssue is like giving the fox or the wolf the key to the Hen house.
It is the opinion of many employees at Memphis Light Gas and Water Division that Jerry Collins and Chris Bieber to the employees at the company is like Hilter to the Jews. Those two Guys are very SICK.

Thank you for posting our complaints on your website. This Jerry Collins need to be exposed. Jerry goes around to many of the department here at MLG&W and thinks because he is President that he can talk to people any way he please. The bastard never answer any of our questions. As an employees of Public Works me and my coworkers still have nightmares from Jerry Collins doing us so bad. We already did not make much monies and if anybody made a minor mistake that should have been given a reprimand Jerry Collins destroyed their lifes by giving them five to ten days off if we were lucky. Most of the time he fired them for a little of nothing. To 1:04 pm: I dare you to call me and tell me "what you really think of me". Have you ever heard of filing a police report for phone harrassment? Read up on it asshole. I will have your broke ass so tied up in the legal system you will wish you weren't born.
To 7:58 am: Don't be so quick to call someone ignorant when you don't even know where to place a question mark. The last time I checked you place one after a written question, not a period lame ass. We do have a problem reading your post because of your incorect usage of punctuation.
To 2:27pm: It is the customers like you who spout ignorant statements such as the ones you blogged, that complain because you can't get a third and fourth extension, or because you can't get an extension to December 31st 2008 because you have to pay your cellphone bills, get your hair "fixed", and pay for sex from your baby's daddy first. Get your priorities together and you will be able to pay your bills on time without having to call and beg every month asshole.
To 3:17 p.m.: Call Center employees do not have internet access at work fool. Do you? How much time do you spend on it for personal reasons when you should be working? I was at the convenient store tonight and the woman working there, she told me her sister works in that department and said it is all about some employees that have attitudes. I read these post but I wanted to comment on the fact that I think part of the problem with Memphis, not just MLG&W is that the wrong people are "given" jobs. The "who you know that what you know" cliche' is overwhelming in this city. When you listen to the ignorant rants that come out of the mouths of those people who are making six fiqures in the government jobs, you just want to throw you hands up and ask, why.
It is not about talking white but about reading a book and being articulate. I guess when all of these fools either die or are indicted, educated young people like myself will get a chance to show what we can do. I always fought against moving away like a lot of my highschool/college/grad school mates but it is becoming more and more a possibility.

It's not good to have BITCHING and MOANING and COMPLAINING employees at a problem solving desk.
Maybe that's all these people know how to do and that is to have a phone at their ear. It sure gets to me when I see people using food stamps and then walking out the door with a cell phone growing out their ear. Is that what our taxes go for, telephones for the illeterate? There are probably more cell phones in the hood than people. I am looking forward to seeing someone with a cell phone at each ear, but it sure want be in the hood or on Beale. I value my life.
Look here! This ALL because of the WHITE MAN. Now I know you say, how can it be when it only a black worker and a black manager involved but hear me out. Some years ago the white man planted a seed in the head of the black manager. And that seed is to oppress the black man. It is like a hypnotist see, if you follow me.
So really it all can be blame on the white man no matter what even if they ain't in the room or even if they don't directly know about it. Aint no doubt on that.
One day we all get reparation for our ancestor suffering and we can tell the white man we don't need no jobs no more anyhow. Until then take my word it all to blame on the white man. Even all white baby is born bad, just look at they face and you can see it. Nothing good has a white color.
So don't tell me to vote for no white man I don't care if the brother in office steal everything the city have. I say good!
the meeting with the employees of mlg&w and the memphis city council members was a great success. 10 out of 13 council members showed up. 250 to 350 employees showed up. thanks to rick thompson business manager of ibew for scheduling and setting up this meeting. this was the best meeting that i have ever gone to.
Man that meeting of the IBEW Local 1288 was a class act. The members of the Union came out to the meeting. The Council members asked penty of questions about MLG&W and its operation. I feel good about what happen today. Thanks, IBEW Leadership you did out-standing today. We need to stop these unfair labor practices at Memphis Light, Gas & Water.
Thaddeus, I wish you would have come to the meeting of the IBEW. The MLGW employees came out to voice their complaints and concerns to the Memphis City Council. Most of the City Council was there.

I was happy that I went to the meeting at the IBEW Union Hall. The meeting was well put together. Good information came out at that meeting. I was glad I took the time. This was the first time I have ever met some of the council members in person. They are just regular people like us. Good meeting. Thanks my IBEW 1288.
Thanks for inviting me to the MLG&W Union Meeting. This is the same things that Jerry Collins did at Public Works. He destroyed our Grievance Process the same as he is trying to destroy your at MLG&W. The man is a destroyer of working people. You guys got your fight cut out for you. I bet you a dime to a dollars that Collins is going to get mad and retaliate.
Here's the deal. If yall people here had to listen to the MOFO dumb asses (city of memphis RESIDENTS) who call and ask dumb questions all day, you would hate the job people. This city is SO FULL of dumb people. I mean DUMB! Thats one part of the problem. I hate talking to so many DUMMIES!
I can't say the management bothers me any cause I just do my job and get the hell out. After listening to all the DUMB idiots in this city I just go home and chill.
But, there is a real problem I say with some of the people I work with. Too much gossip in that place for one. Now don't get mad people but you know who you are and some of you don't want to work. You know this. Some of the ones that complain about their boss, they themself are the worst employees to start with. Yeah just transfer your bad calls back in and then someone else has to deal with it. I for one would not do that. But you know who you are. (Bunch of you.) You can't blame this on management. You have to start with yourself before you blame the manager. (Your babysitter that is.)
Really you need to get straight on your own stuff and clean your own house before you complain about the management anyway. Common sense people. Or they are gonna take a big look under the rug and find your problem too. And believe me they are some problem employees. I'm not gonna snitch but if they start looking they will find a lot of yall on their own. So be looking in the mirror. It's no great job but damn the money is better than a lot of places. Just my 2 cent.

I attended the IBEW Union meeting today along with 11 City Council members and many, many MLGW employees. Now that we have had a chance to voice our concerns about the lack of sympathy for the community (customers) and MLGW employees that Jerry Collins, Chris Bieber, and Bernice Martin show (to the City Council), maybe something will finally be done about these tyrants. Channel 5 News was also present and aired a story on the meeting. (it can also be viewed on www.wmctv.com). Maybe now the people who post on this site that are so "anti-MLGW workers" will see that we are not only protecting our rights, but also your rights. We made sure the City Council knew about all the additional fees that are placed on customers who's services get cut off when they have trouble paying their regular utility bill, and also MLGW's refusal to accept payments at a customer's door when they are facing cutoff. It's just another ploy to cut the services anyway and get the money for the reconnect fees and additional deposits that are later billed. Please realize that MLGW rank and file employees do not make policy, MLGW Management does. If we all work together to shed light on these unfair practices we can make MLGW a more people-friendly company and belive me, the changes that we are seeking will benefit everyone.
I thought about that Union Meeting all night. That was a dam good meeting. I am glad to know that my Union Leadership have the cloud to be able to get ten city council person to come to a Union meeting on a Saturday. I was impress. But the way Jerry Collins, Chris Bieber and Armstead Ward mind set is I do not know if the city council will be able to make them treat us right. But every thing worse a try. Everybody knows that MLG&W management is mean-spirited.

You people should be a SHAME of yourselves for paying us so low. Then, we have to put up with you folk and deal with your sorry asses on top of it.
Don't give me none of that "yes but you make more than the national average" stuff. That does not matter when we have to tolerate the bullshit we do.
If they wasn't recording us believe me you people I would tell you a thing or two. Calling up and asking dumb ass questions you don't need to be asking. Just pay your bill cause computers don't make mistakes all right? You just have to question everything don't you people? I'm sick and damn tired of you dumb asses honestly.
On top of all that we have dumb ass rules to follow and this exreme punctuality bullshit. I mean, its not the end of the damn world if you cant get someone on the phone immediately, dumb ass people.
Like I said you people should be ASHAME of yourself for not paying us more money (that we damn right DESERVE) to put up with your damn BULLSHIT. And I do mean BULLSHIT.
