Little Nikki proved on Sunday night that she is out of her league in the game of politics. It was painful to watch her performance during the debate between herself,Congressman Steve Cohen,and Joe Towns. Never once did she answer a direct question and if you're like me you got tired of hearing her talk about her sick grandmother and her mother who was a single parent. But we did find out that her mother must be one tough lady being both a steel worker and a airline attendent as Tinker claimed in the debate.
Tinker proved to anyone who had not made a decision on who to vote for, that certainly she's not the choice. She has no history of service and never gave us her position on any issue. It seems the only reason that she's running is to keep her grandmother from having to go to the mailbox to get her check which opened the door for Joe Towns to give the most remembered statement of the night. "Older people are not waiting for the mailman to bring the check they all have direct deposit"
Tinker spoke of being a civil rights attorney,but after questioning from Cohen could never tell the audience when. As a labor attorney for Pinnacle Airlines its her job to look after the airline not the workers.,so is this just another lie from the wanna be poli-trick-an? Tinker also claims to have been Harold Ford Jr's campaign manager, but when? It's possible that she worked in his campaign but she needs to prove that she was his manager. If she manage his campaign like she's managing hers he would have never been elected.
To be so sorry in her performance she must not have listen to one thing that State Rep. Lois Deberry and County Commissioner Sidney Chism told her. Certainly they would have told her to at least address issues. Certainly they told her not to allow Congressman Cohen to make her look like a political novice and rattle her cage with his questions. It was plain to see that when Cohen addressed her tenure as an civil rights attorney she became unnerved stalling her answer by telling Cohen that she didn't interrupt him when he was speaking.
Tinker is not ready for congress,in fact with her having no history of service, being easy to rattle,and a speaking voice that is very unpleasant to the ear she's not ready for any office. Even those who state that only a black should represent the district will certainly now give their vote to Joe Towns who handled himself well.
Nikki, Congressman Cohen will be my guest Friday at 4pm on "Express Yourself" on Am 990 KWAM join us for a one on one. I don't think that you have the nerves or the knowledge to sit in my studio with the congressman and myself discussing issues. And certainly Sidney and Lois will not advised you to appear on my show because they know you can't take the spanking I'll give you...............IF YOU AIN'T SCARED PROVE ME WRONG AND ACCEPT MY OFFER FOR A ONE ON ONE WITH COHEN.

I have yet to speak with someone who thought Cohen did a nice job. Nikki had a message of change and compassion. However, i congratulate Cohen on not laughing at his opponents who where ill prepared for this debate. Where was Town's evidence of Cohen's support of special interest groups? The depressing thing is that these kinda of arguments could of worked, against Blackburn in the 7th. Not one of the most progressive democrats in congress.

"Sitting on the porch waiting for the check" is a metaphor for Nikki Tinker's run for congress. Think about it:
The porch is the TN 9th Congressional District. The check is the one that reads "Congressman" on it. But instead of being a grandmother, Nikki is the mythical "welfare queen", you know, the one that schemes the system to get undeserved government payments. Her "illegitimate children" are her misrepresentations, half-truths and lies, and her scheme is being supported by black ministers spewing religious and racial hate.
She never should have gotten off the porch, because after hearing her speak and seeing her handle herself, she might as well put a gold tooth in her mouth.

Last night I listened to the debate broadcast by WREG-TV. It was my first occasion to see and hear Nikki Tinker. Frankly, I was shocked at her lack of poise, knowledge and preparation. She is not a credible candidate, and I will not be voting for her. By the way, Joe Towns did a much better job than Tinker of addressing questions and issues.
In a season when we are asking this country to elect a black man to the highest office in the land, it should not be the case that we have "consensus candidate" efforts advocating electing a person simply because they are black. These are serious times, full of very serious problems, and we need serious people to help solve them. If a "corporate lawyer" (which Tinker is) can't be truthful about her background (as a civil rights lawyer), and is unable to say how she would vote differently than the incumbent, and cannot offer concrete ideas or proposals on serious issues, then what does it say about us when we vote for someone like that. Cohen has vastly more experience, and has represented the district well. His performance on the national stage has been something we should all be proud of.
We've lost our collective perspective. Think about all of the republicans who twice voted for Bush. They must feel pretty stupid right now having elected an incompetent responsible for the one of the worst periods in American history.
So, let's stop digging. We've got a big enough hole as it is! We don't need an empty pant suit.

The superior performance of Congressman Cohen at the debate was clearly due to his knowledge and experience. No one in their right mind who truly cares about the district would vote for the other candidates.
Rep. Joe Towns did have the best line of the night. Senior citizens have more sense than to sit out in this heat and risk their health to wait for their checks. He is right,we do have direct deposit.

14 years ago, A black woman from outside of memphis was appointed to look over the health of Shelby County. By anyone's estimate she has failed completely . She has been paid well to throw up her hands and yet She is protected by county government. ALA Godwin, She also has no answers when asked direct questions regarding community health and has been proven incompetent by never taking any action to combat problems. The national media knows Memphis as the place that has the highest rates on infant death, tennage pregnancy, cancer, syphillis, gonnorhea, obesity and AIDS.
I submit to you that if Memphis was lead by people that were more concerned with the community rather than hooking up friends wives with jobs that they clearly are not qualified for this would be a better place. I have one simple question? Why does the largest city in the state not have a competent health director. Nashville would never consider a person this inept! I work for one of the television stations here in Memphis and I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Cohen when he appeared on our show. Finally!!! A decent debate on Thad's blog regarding important decisions to be made for the city of Memphis, and most of the posts are intelligent and well thought out. You know, if you people keep going in this direction this city just might turn itself around. I'm so glad to see that black folks are waking up and are paying more attention to those who have their best interests in mind, and not judging their candidates by skin color. Of course there will always be those who do. My politics lean to the conservative right which means I don't support Obama..but I didn't support Hillary or her husband either. It's not about skin color, it's about beliefs and values. Vote for what you believe and who is the best candidate that supports those beliefs. Just to see some of you talking about it on this blog gives me hope that maybe we can turn this city around and get it going in the right direction again. Many of us have a vested interest in this city. It's where we grew up and are raising our children. Our legacy to them is what we leave them with. Do we really want to leave them the city that Memphis has become? Herenton has chased a lot of the white tax base out of the city with his arrogant attitude..."if you don't like it leave." Ok, so many have left, and who does that leave the tax burden on? Your own black leader, along with black crime, chased out the white tax base to a large degree putting the tax burden on black folks. This all reminds me of the famous story about the 3 preachers running for a train. One preacher is wearing a thick coat and carrying a briefcase and stands about 5 feet tall. He is from Indiana. Another preacher has a satchel and an umbrella and he is from New York City, and he too is about 5 feet tall. The third preacher is only carrying a sandwich and he is from Nebraska, and is almost 5-1/2 feet tall to be exact. It appears to me that you have tried to be and act "white" to get ahead in your corporate high society world and then try to be a "sister" when you thought that's what you needed to get elected. I am not sure you know who you are and if you don't the voters certainly never will. the whole front porch thing is demeaning and derogatory and totally out of touch with reality. Rep. Townes said as much when he told you that seniors had direct deposit. It was clear from the look on your face that you didn't know that. So on the main theme of your so called campaign you didn't do your research. and clearly you can't talk about a single issue facing this country with any substance or thoughtful insight. Nikki, you are what they call an empty suit. your "church talk" is empty too and comes across as insincere. I have no doubt that you are a believer but also think you worship yourself. in my long life I have found that those that are constantly invoking the name of Jesus and/or God in inappropriate times like you did Sunday night are not as spiritual as they would have others think. I dare say you probably don't tithe much and are not a regular attendee at your church. that is unless it benefits your political agenda. i hope I am wrong here but that is certainly my perception of you. as soon as this election is over you need to move back to Alabama start there by getting elected to a school board or a city council. Get involved in a community by volunteering your time with Habit for Humanity or a boys and girls club. show some concern for those less fortunate than you. Act on your statement that to whom much is given much is expected. Getting elected to Congress is not in the plan for you right now and never will be in Memphis, TN. Accept that and move on. Literally. Get out of our town. Since the last election what have you done for this community other than hand out turkeys that the Fords paid for. you had the past two years to show us you cared about this community and yet you did NOTHING! You hung out socially with the upper echelon of memphis and ran around giving speeches and attending public events. that my friend does not show you care and as a result you don't deserve to be taken seriously. Working for the Fords and giving speeches is not paying your dues and does not give you some divine right to this seat. After Sunday night's performance you lost some of your past support and probably lost 90% or more of the undecideds. you are gonna get embarrassed and I hate to say it but you deserve to get beat that bad. it is so easy to see through you and see what a an absolute fraud you are. it is very comforting to know that this time around an ever growing number of people are seeing you that way too.
I look forward to seeing what your next steps are after you get trounced in the election. my hunch is that you will need no encouragement to leave memphis and will do it on your own. That will be good for all of us. One last piece of advice: wherever you end up commit yourself to serving others in a volunteer capacity. maybe then people will take you more seriously the next time you put your name on the ballot. Otherwise work your 9 to 5 then go home and sit on the porch with your Grandmother, but don't bother ever running for office at any level. have a nice day.

I really wish that black people in Memphis would stop voting for blacks just because of color. Please just vote for a QUALIFIED candidate with the EXPERIENCE and the HISTORY of DELIVERY. Dont vote for color. Memphis is going down the tubes because of this.

So What if Cohen or Tinker are gay. They want be the first elected official that you have voted for. You voted for Menerva Johnican and Lois DeBerry. They are looong time lesbians. I am sure that their are more that I am not aware of but I KNOW what I am talking about with these two. What difference does it make. What you should be concerned about is how they will serve their constituents and qualifications.

I wqs really disappointed in Nikki performance Sunday night. I had never heard her before but am surprised she has a law degree. I was however impressed with Joe Townes. But I believe Steve Cohen has done everything possible for this community and deserves to be sent back to Congress.

First I cannot believe that anyone would even attempt to vote for someone that will not take a position on anything and just recently moved to the 9th district. Clearly the debate proved that she's not up to the job and hs been put out there by some ministers who have been paid off to support her. Nikki Tinker doesnt have a clue and constantly talked about her grandmother as if she's running. Please dont be fooled vote for Cohen he clearly has keep me and the district better informed than we've ever been over the past 2 years. As a lifelong resident my calls are returned and my emails are answered and he's been very visible. Nikki couldnt find her way around the 9th district without some help and has no ties to the community and would not answer any specifics about her vision or plans for the district.
It’s obvious to me that Tinker is not ready for the job. She is running on an invisible platform with no support. Change just for the sake of change means absolutely nothing to a logical person who keeps abreast of the issues. Can one of you Tinker supporters tell me what she is planning to change and how she will change it? What’s her plan? Have you seen it? Is it in writing? She certainly hasn’t articulated her it very well to the public so I certainly hope it’s written down somewhere.
Attacking Cohen and pointing out the socioeconomic woes of the 9th District doesn’t mean she is the one who can fix things and make them better. The same problems were there when Cohen got there and they will be there whenever he leaves. The people of that district have to want to change what goes on there. The woes of the 9th District cannot and will not be fixed by one congressman. Where was Tinker when Harold Ford Junior had that seat? Why didn’t she run then? The district had the same problems. Her Grandmothers fictional “mail box” Government check had the same problems “making” it to the mailbox as it did when Junior was there. So show me her plan and tell me how she is planning to change things. Not just the broken record of her talking about the problems with no solutions.
In Wendi Thomas' column in the CA (07/17/2008) Ms. Thomas states that Ms. Tinker was raised and educated in Alabama. Perhaps that is why Ms. Tinker was unable to answer Mr. Cohen's question during Sunday nights deabate re: where she practiced as a civil rights attorney. But my real concern is: Why doesn't Ms. Tinker run for a congressional seat in her home state of Alabama? One would think that her family, neighbors, school chums, sorority sisters, frat brothers, etc. would certainly support her. Perhaps it should be investigated why she is seemingly running away from Alabama, while giving the impression she is a native Memphian. Makes we wonder if little Nikki has something to hide. One more question: since she served as a campaign manager for former Cong. Harold Ford, Jr. why hasn't HE endorsed her candidacy? After all, she is running for the seat in his former congressional district! I think something is rotten and stinking in the Tinker camp! Investigate Thaddeus!

I was shocked at how uneducated Nikki Tinker appeared during the debate. Hard to believe she ever passed the bar exam, let alone made it through any law school. If she's purposely talking like a fool in order to make folks think she's from the "hood," she's anything but. She lives in a two-story house in Harbor Town that she paid $319,000 for. Check it out for yourself on the Shelby County Property Assessor's web site. I agree with posters who said she's from Alabama -- why is she running for office here??? Cohen has lived here his WHOLE LIFE. He loves this city. Graduated from Central High School. He's done so many things to help the citizens of Memphis over the past 30 years, it's hard to list them all. It would be a GIANT step backwards for all of us, BLACK and WHITE, if he loses this election.
Tinker is a joke. End of story. The only way she will win is if she comes up with some serious dirt on Cohen. The homosexual allegation is the only thing that could possibly sink him. You know we don't like gay men in the Black community. Which is hogwash because they are a ton of gay Black men both openly and in the closet all over the 9th District.
