This afternoon I accompanied Ms. Shirley Wilson mother of Reginald Pointer who was shot and killed last Tuesday to N.J. Fords And Sons Funeral Home. Wilson's son was shot down by undercover police officer Jerry Hampton who along with his partner Louis Brown gave chase to Pointer after Fed-Ex security guards who also were were chasing the 24 year old stated that it seemed he was prowling cars parked on Tchulahoma Street. Ms. Wilson was also accompanied by several family members who requested that I take pictures of Pointer to be placed on this site so that the truth about his death could not be covered up.
Looking at the body of Reginald Pointer I now understand why the Memphis Police Department has issued no statement concerning the shooting. It's very apparent that Pointer was not only shot but beaten. But what lead to the use of deadly force by officer Hampton? Sources out of 201 Poplar told me on last Wednesday that the shooting could not be justified and that Pointer had no weapon on him or any device that could be used to break in cars. So why is he dead?
It's an unwritten policy among police officers that if they have to chase you,you have to go to the MED because you will be issued a ass whupping. The left side of Pointer's face is badly swollen plus you can see bruises around the left side of his forehead and eye. There is also bruises in his chest,Left side, And his left and right arms are both swollen and bruised.
The bullet from the 40 caliber Sig that MPD officers carry at close range would go through a body but there is no exit wound so I'm lead to believe that Pointer was being beaten and got loose and ran and was shot down by Hampton. The wound to the left arm shows that the bullet grazed the arm prior to entering Pointer's body. So is it possible that Hampton shot Pointer because he tried to get away from the beating that he was receiving,Especially since it had not been proven that he had committed any crime.Because surely Pointer wasn't beaten after he was shot.
Is it possible that the bruises and the swollen spots on the body of Reginald Pointer come from night sticks or maybe from being stomped? Either way with MPD officers and FEDEX security present there was no reason for deadly force to be used on the 5"5 125 pound 24 year old. From the appearance of the body he was no threat to the officers,So why is he dead?
Is the struggle that the officers state was made by Pointer one where he was trying to save his own life? Is it one of survival where he was being beaten and just wanted to get away? Where's the reason for deadly force? We all know that if MPD had a way to clear this Black police officer who shot down a Black man in cold blood those facts and evidence would have been submitted by now.
This is a case of police brutality that is being condoned by Police Director Larry Godwin and mayor Willie Herenton. Because if they didn't condone the act we would have heard from them by now. Maybe they thought that because of the Lester Street pictures that I would not be able to get pictures out of N.J. Fords funeral home and that the truth about the killing would be buried on this Saturday when the 24 year old is laid to rest.

If you aren't satisfied with this answer, Thud, next time the police pats you down when you're under arrest for DV, see what happens if you fight and try to reach for their gun. By you attempting to remove or pry an officer's gun from their holster or hand only forces an officer to believe you intend to use that gun to kill the officer and at that point is when the survival instinct kicks in - kill or be killed.
You can answer all of your own slanted forensic questions by imagining you are in a wrestling match trying to get someone's gun and they shoot you however way they can. Does it matter what positions your arms are in or where the bullet goes in? The bullets that law enforcement use are not designed to pass through the body. These bullets are designed for maximum knock down power. You will hardly ever see a .40 make a pass through shot with the ammo the police carry.

First off, a .40 caliber bullet (LIKE ANY OTHER BULLET) is unpredictable. A bullet fired into a body (or other barrier) will react to the forces being applied against it. The design of bullets and what barriers it passes through will ultimately decide if it over-penetrates (exiting the body) or if it remains within.
Now, seeing as how MOST police departments in the United States (Memphis PD being one of them) have made the decision to utilize rounds that reduce the risk of liability of bullets over-penetrating, following on, and hitting innocent bystanders.
Second, how do you base your conclusions on the bruising and abrasions. At most, you are speculating and that just isn't going to cut it. Maybe you can get Javier and Vic Hill to convene a Grand Jury. Doubtful, seeing as how the last one got slapped down with the quickness.

If you look up what a .40 cal hyrda shock bullet will do then you will see that it is not impossible for the bullet to not exit this man's body close or long range. If I were a Memphis police oficer, I would have a floating picture of Thaddeus Matthews atop the water of an outside urinal within my my home property.

A MAN WAS KILLED AND WHY? He was looking into cars or walking down a street. I don't see either one of those as a reason for his death. A son, father, brother, and friend is dead. The Bible says let the first one without sin cast the first stone. Who is without sin? I know I am not, but what I did or he did does not make us thugs, drug addicts,or even a bad person. We made a mistake. Once we take responsibility for our wrong, stop judging us for them and let be able to make a better life and choices. Everyone of us has done something that we are not proud of and we all did not get caught.
I feel really sorry for the mother and family of Mr. Pointer. I have sons and would never want anything like to happen to my sons.
As far as MPD and Godwin, well I feel they are just a bunch of criminals in uniforms. I moved to Memphis in January of 2004 and things was not this bad. I first had a problem with one of Memphis finest at Krispy Kreme doughnut on Winchester, she could not get out of parking space and threaten me. I just let it go, but knew something was not right about a police officer who could not drive acting so stupid. My job transferred me back to Ohio in January of 2005 and I stayed there until I retired and I came back to Memphis, because I had brought a house there. Crime was bad in eighteen months and things was so different that I knew that I could not stay there. I move again in June 2008, but I still listen to radio show and read your blog. I just can't believe the stuff that is going on there and nothing is being done about it.I hope justice will be done for this mother and all the other people that Memphis finest just keep doing things to. I really think it is messed up once the MPD is fighting among their self.

No one seems to find Mr Pointer responsible for any of his actions that night. He chose to be where he was, he chose to run from security and he chose to run from the police. He made several bad choices that night.

Both bruises and swelling take some time to develop and both require blood pressure to occur. People who are shot dead lose blood pressure very quickly because the heart is no longer pumping. A man who was beaten and then immediately shot dead might present abrasions/lacerations, but probably not swelling or bruises.
Hence we can see that if Mr. Pointer was all swollen and bruised, he was beaten up much earlier.
So there is only one inescapable conclusion that any rational person can come to: Reggie got beat up by his momma.

If a mistake was made by this police officer in carrying out his duties it was unfortunate, but it was not a killing. We expect a police officer to do his best in protecting us. If he is rushing to an expected scene of a crime on wet streets and slides into a telephone pole we would not hold him responsible for damages to the squad car. Accidents do happen.
Let's move on. If you see a speeding police vehicle, get out of the way. If you are stupid enough to be on someone's property then be prepared to explain your presence, nothing more. Fatal Memphis police shooting ruled justifiable

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Prosecutors say a fatal shooting by a Memphis police officer last week was justifiable.
The officer, Gerry Hampton, was on patrol for thieves breaking into unattended vehicles when he shot and killed 24-year-old Reginald Pointer who resisted arrest.
Police officials said Tuesday he has been cleared by the Shelby County District Attorney's office to return to full duty.
The shooting occurred Oct. 21 after officers spotted security guards for FedEx Corp. chasing a man on foot near a company office building.
Police said they caught the man after a brief chase, and he was shot while struggling with the officers.
Hampton, a 10-year police veteran, had been routinely relieved of duty pending an investigation.

Years ago they followed a guy into my parents home and beat him handcuffed in front of our face. My mother and I put a complaint in with the Internal affairs section and never heard anything back.
Another incident my brother was suppose to have broken into my home, but the witness story kept, changing come to find out the witness was the one had someone to go into my home. The police tried to get me to railroad my brother and I wouldn't I told them to prove that he was the one by using fingerprints. I was told by the detective, that when the witness says that's the person. They cannot use the fingerprints in the case, because they have an eye witness.(like I just came off of the ice cream truck)So I told them to release my brother, until they show different. My brother did not have a record and is not a thug.

First, I would like to say "i'm sorry for the death of this young man and my prayer's go out to his family" now with that said I also understand that police have a job to do but sometime's not all the time; they become over zealous and let their preceived notions of different ethnic groups get in the way of them doing their job(s) equally.
I don't really know what happened to this young man but if his family feels like investigating it is their right to do so and if their was no crime committed here than investigating would cause no harm.
I'm sick of people hating each other, calling each other and making comments about things they haven't personally experienced themselve. Someone on this blog said that "black are committing most of the crimes", I think this comment and many like it is what keeps people afraid and keeps the myths going that all black people are bad and worthless.
No one race is better than the other and I think there are other races committing crimes but they don't show that on tv because that's not what the viewer's want to see, that's not what get's ratings; if they showed the whole truth it would be sad and shocking realization that we all are created equal and that color of skin doesn't matter.
THE WORLD WOULD BE ALOT BETTER IF WE HAD MORE GOOD PARENTS TO TEACH THEIR CHILDREN RIGHT FROM WRONG FROM THE AGE WHEN THEY BEGIN WALKING AND TALKING. TO THE OFFICER YOU MUST HAVE HAD A GREAT MOTHER AND FATHER THAT TAUGHT YOU WELL TO WERE YOU WANTED TO TRY TO MAKE THE CITY SAFE FOR YOUR KIDS AND OTHER KIDS IN THE CITY (IF YOU HAVE ANY KIDS OF YOUR OWN). I'LL PUT IT TO YOU LIKE THIS,NO ONE DESERVES TO DIE BY THE HANDS OF MAN. EVERYONE KNOWS THE LIFE THE YOUNG MAN LIVED IS MOTHER SAID IT HERSELF THAT HIS LIFESTYLE ONE DAY WILL END BADLY FOR HIM IF HE DIDNT CHANGE HIS WAYS. TO THE MOTHER YOU'VE DONE OUR PART THAT WAS TRY YOUR BEST TO RAISE A DECENT YOUNG MAN THAT HE WOULD WANT SOMETHING OUT OF LIFE INSTEAD OF BEING A THUG, GANG BANGER, ROBBER, DRUG DEALER, OR MURDERER OR ANYTHING OTHER THAN WHAT YOU REALLY WANTED YOUR SON TO BE OR DO IN LIFE. WHEN YOU'VE OUT GROWN YOUR HOME TRAINING THEN SOMETHING BAD WILL HAPPEN. TO THADD IF THIS IS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SIT AND DOWN OTHER PEOPLETHAN YOU NEED SOME HELP. NO ONE KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED THAT NIGHT BUT THE ONES THAT WERE THERE AND GOD.WHO KNOWS IF HE WAS RISISTING OR WHATEVER THE CASE MAY BE BUT IF YOU DON'T KNOW ALL THE FACTS YOU JUST NEED TO JUST'SHUT THE HELL UP' AND STOP TRYING TO BEAT UP ON SOMEONE THAT WAS TRYING TO MAKE THE STREETS OF MEMPHIS A BETTER AND SAFER PLACE FOR YOURS KIDS.
