Cory Maclin, president and chief executive officer of Maclin & Associates Advertising and Promotions, TV personality, and owner of Memphis Wrestling appeared Friday on The Thaddeus Matthews to make it known that he plans next year to be the next Shelby County Clerk. Maclin who filed for the position in January is the only candidate for the position at this time. The office of clerk will be opened with present clerk Debbie Stamson letting it be known that she has no plans to seek re-election.
>Maclin who lives in Lakeland but grew up in Millington states 'The office needs new blood and better ideas on customer service". Maclin spoke of the fact that the technology of the office is years behind but that even with the present budget that issue could be addressed without costing the tax payer any additional money.
Maclin states that he would address the terrible situation of long lines for driver registration by introducing a system where tags could be renewed on line and where date sticker could be received by mail. I asked Maclin how he would pay for the mailing or the delivery of the new stickers and he replied by stating that the average person has to stand in long lines sometimes missing time off work, Or in the case of coming downtown having to pay to park,and that those citizens would most likely rather pay a small fee for this service than to miss time off work or have to pay $5-8 dollars to park.
Professional Wrestler Jerry Lawler made an appearance also by phone stating that he an Maclin have been business partners for the last 10 years an that out of all of the partners that he has had in the past in the wrestling business maclin is the most honest and hard working. Lawler stated that memphis needs to offer the non politician the chance to make a difference,which is the reason that he at one time ran for mayor of Memphis. Lawler endorsed Maclin and will be making personal appearances throughout the campaign in support.
When asked his views about the recent indictments this week concerning current employees taking gifts and bribes, Maclin only response was that "The buck stops with the clerk" Maclin also stated that under his administration the behavior of accepting gifts and bribes would not be allowed and those found to taking part in the violation of public trust would be immediately terminated and turned over to law enforcement.
I also spoke with Maclin concerning the political rumor that City of Memphis Court Clerk Thomas Long may seek to run for the Shelby County Clerk's position and Maclin stated he's sure that Long's running for the office is just a rumor seeing that he and Long met last year and Long promised to support him. Maclin said feeling that Long is a man of his word that he's sure Long will not be a candidate in the race and especially one that would pay him less than he currently make as city court clerk.

Why is it that so many run for public office without any background for that office? I don't think a wrestler's endorsement is much of a recommendation.
Here we have a candidate who has been in promotions but little experience in the field of maintaining records. Will this be another race for the colors? Is he just running for the money?
Looks like another opportunity for French to rake off some green with a no bid contract for some firm in Texas in the development of an online system of registration and retrieval of the records of a successful trip for the auto inspection. He will be out of office before that set up can be brought up.
Maybe we could get Koko B. Ware to run against him and have to settle it in the ring. But for real, he seems to have a good idea and it would be cool to have someone new running that will have an idea how to handle money.

I know Corey Maclin personally. I went to Middle School and high School with him. I know several of his family members (his grandfather is a true man of integrity and is known as such throught the town of Millington).
I would stand on the highest rock and support this man.
Even as a youngster, he was all business. Many days, he wore a suit to high school (try getting away with that without taking several ass-whoopings), he often carried a briefcase, and he always acted professionally.
I would vote for Corey Maclin any day for any position in the county.

I don't know why all the negative responses but if you look at the current state of the politics, you have to agree that they are messed up. You don't need a degree in knowing how to do the right thing for the citizens of Memphis. Cory would be an excellent choice to help clean up some of the corruption that is going here in the city.

Updating any system to be more customer friendly is a great thing no matter when it happens. His ideas on the streamlining of the tag renewal process may be behind othere areas but it sometimes takes thinking from outside of the box to be able to fill the box properly.
With the current situation the office is going through, Maclin will be able to take this sinking ship, stop the leaking, and get it on the right course.
Maclin is a family man with 6 children. All of the chlildren have the same mother and were born in wedlock. This is the type of example we should want to be shown to our young people
As you can tell by the type of business he's in, Maclin is a man who will not just appeal to all races but will do his best to help all races. He has that mass appeal as well as a willing heart.
Maclin has a common respect for all people. He is very personable. He would be great in any office.

i like cory maclin.I remember aching him on memphis wrestling when I was a little younger.I'm a computer networking major and I think Maclin appeals more to my generation and future generations.I agree with cory about how they are behind in technology. He can bring everything up to speed.Basically in a nut shell he knows what needs to be done now and what will help out in the future.
I think it's about time that someone from the community enter the political arena with fresh ideas and have the people's interest at heart. Someone needs to step in and put an end to all these dishonest and shady political games. I believe Corey will be an excellent choice for this position.
