The goal was to raise $2.million and the campaign was to be called The 2X2 Handle Our Business Capital campaign. The sources state that only $1million was raised and no effort has been made to build the center. In fact all members have been told in that the money is in the bank,
Also their was a campaign to raise seed money to buy the Old Martini Room Club. After raising $55,000 the purchase was never made and members were told in the letter that they could not move forward with the purchase until God released them.
The members of New Direction have no ideal how much they pay Spencer but many are becoming concerned as to whether he is misusing church funds for his personal gain. Whatever he is paying himself is it enough to live the lifestyle he lives.
While many of his members live in poverty Spencer lives in Collierville in a home that has been appraised at nearly $700,000.Not only does in live in the home which is located at 9405 Forest Wind Drive,He and his wife Rhonda own a home at 5575 Jamestown in Hickory Hill appraised at $147,900.
But the real concern of some members is his recent purchase of property at 3581 Hickory Hill. The property which houses a car wash, beauty and barber shop,and a nail salon all in one is appraised at $621,500 and called "Wash and Cut" the members are wondering whether the property that is in the name of Spencer and his brother Shawn was purchased with church funds.
Is New Direction paying Spencer a large enough salary that he can afford to have two homes and a Car wash, beauty salon, barber shop,and nail salon. Is Spencer fleecing his flock for his own gain while peddling sex on the side?
But the question must also be asked of the members why do you keep on giving your money and not seeing a return on the promises made by Stacey Spencer. Did the members think that the hickory hill business was church property? Why has not someone ask Spencer how much of their money he's stealing" Is Spencer another pulpit pimp or great business man?

Censoring? Where is the message where I asked about the young woman that needed rent money? Something does not sound right. The church is not a bank! It has bills just like everyone else. I am not a bank. I cannot give to everybody that needs funds. Why do we expect our churches to do the same. It seems strange to me that the lady's mother did not -have friends or family to help her. Thaddeus I have to be honest with you my friend; I date a chick about 6yrs ago and she was an absolute FREAK! We worked together and I'd take her home mostly (3 or 4 times a week) at days end. I was visiting NDCC one Tuesday and Spencer said that people were going to hate on him because "HE" was opening up a business. He never said the church was opening a business. People should investigate and one thing I can say about Black people we will listen and believe instead of reading and believing. Spencer has a ministry..stacyspencer.org...that ministry allows him to sell his books, cd's, and travel around the world to save lost souls. That is his business which provides for his family. Now as far as what he makes, yes I think a financial statement should be given to all church members. Who knows the money raised for the life center can be built in the future. He has to first find property. The church barely has enough parking.
As for the book.... It is very explicit but why not minister to people about sex. We are losing our husband and wives to MTV, BET, Zane, Christals!!!! What married couples do in there home is there busy and sometimes you do need an outsider to tell you how to spice it up because a lot of married couples are sleeping in seperate beds or sleeping with someone more entertaining.

On the Shelby County Tax Assessor Home Page it shows that Stacey and Shawn Owns the property at 3581 Hickory Hill. I wonder if he used New Direction Tax Id to purchase this property or if he used a different Tax Id for personal property usage. I hope that he is not using church tithe to benefit from this to pay his morgage in the new home. I am sure he gets a salary from the tithe and offering and he probably uses a different Tax Id for the books and tapes that he sells.
God will seperate the wheat from the tear. I pray that he is not misusing church funds. I know his wife recently received her Master's degree. I wish I could afford graduate school.
God has been dealing with me over that last several years when it comes to tithe. I know that people close to the church that steal your tithe money and purchase homes and businesses property. It hurt me because I was naive and was unaware that people steal from church people. I learned this lesson over 10 years ago. Whoever you are, I want you to know that everyone who post on here is not hating on pastor spencer and/or does not know him. I know him VERY WELL and he is arrogant, spiteful, and talks about people in his sermons that same way people are talking about him on this message board. What is "Dr. Stacey" a doctor of? Is he a trained professional in sexual behavior, sexual counseling, or any has he received any training in sexuality? WOW!!! Is all I can say to the comments that have been left. I was a member of MBCC and NDCC before moving away from Memphis and I know Stacey and his family quite well. I do believe this book is unltimately porn in writing. There is nothing biblical about this book. What happens in a married persons bedroom is there business. Stacey is not qualified to tell anyone how to have sex why? because he does it all the time I mean what. As a member of his church he always said finances was the major reason in our church that couples were seperating and seeking council. So why not a budget and finance book. As far as the dress code at the church. All diciples of christ churches are come as you are and are non traditional. The two men that start the religion believe that we should remove tradition to not seperate the church. But, as the minister of the church you do have the responsibilty to have boundaries and some respect for the church. Halters and club wear is defintely not happening at MBCC or any of the other DofC churches.
As far as the company Saving Lost Souls well that can be argued. If I recall taht is the responsibilty of the church is to save lost souls. So NDCC members are paying Stacey a 6 figure salary to save lost souls, to oversee the operations of the church, and to preach sermons. He then opens a Non Profit and assigns himself as full time employee that legally gives him the right to receive a pay check from this organization. Then he has NDCC tithe in SLS and then he recieves and additional 6 figure salary from SLS. This way he technically gets paid twice by NDCC for the same duty under two different companies. The members allows this thevery to happen. That is why I am happy I am no longer of this country club of a church. NDCC or Stacey didn't start off a church full of greed but, was interest in saving souls in Hickory Hill and making it a place that people wanted to come to. Now it has become a mockary.

I came across your blog after doing some research on the book published by Dr. Stacey Spencer, "Naked and Unashamed." Last summer, I had the opportunity to visit his church and found it to be relevant to those in attendance. It is definitely non-traditional and I liked that. Sometimes you have to reach those who desire a relationship with Christ in a different way and in thier own language.
As far as tithing to the church is concerned, I have been a tither all my life...not because the Pastor said I should, but because it is a "Biblical" principle that I as Christian adhere to. Giving back 10% of what I have blessed with is the least that I can do. That is the responsibility of those who claim to be Christian.
Back to the book, I have not read it yet, but I am looking forward to getting a new perspective on sex and particularly one that is "Biblically based." I have seen the fruits of this young man and I think he doing a wonderful job. It takes courage to share something as intimate as sex...however, the title speaks for itself. He is definitely a visionary and should be commended for being a forerunner.

When a person tithes or makes an offering, he or she is being obediant to God. So no matter what is being done w/ the money I did my part and God knows that. Thats all that matters. The store house concept was not meant for any building, this was an actual treasury the people of the land gave money, gifts, and etc., to help families who was having difficulties or hard time. Again, under the cruel name of Religion, these crooks used it as a scapegoat and cover-up to manipulate people for their own gain. This bad practice continues to be taught by our so-called ministers who may or may not know the truth, yet continues to gain from it, even at the expense of their own brothers and sisters. As for you members of these churches, please read and study materials that document and cross-referenced what these church leaders are teaching you. Don't be afraid to research the bible, believe me it's not all it cracked up to be. How and will God keep us from knowing we are the cradle of civilization, I don't think so. Please don't believe the very same people who are using you-give you their GOD to believe, maybe that's why so many us are still waiting on the salvation and dying old, broke and sad. Believe me, our Gods are wonderful and love us, but will not recognize us-until we recognize them and stand up for liberated minds. We don't need others to think for us.

As an Ordain Minister, myself, I would have to say Thanks to Thaddeus!
I live in Atlanta where at one point I attended a ministry called The Vision Church, Pastor Clay Allen. The church is a gay affirming ministry and thought I have no problem with that, working in the ministry gave me the opportunity to see somethings that definitely were not right behind the scenes. Many people in Atlanta (Government Officials, Lawyers, and Doctors) are wondering if this same action is going on there? Because I've worked behind the scenes, I can testify and say yes it is, The Pastor of this church uses ministry funds to live a very lavish lifestyle and to pay for his own association, education, and trips.
I remember when the church started they were located in this small building on Piedmont and the spirit of God would move in that place like crazy! People were being saved, delivered and set free! The community as a whole was being influenced by this great ministry until the Pastor began to be full of himself.
Others within the church remember a capital campaign was started to raise money for the purpose of building a new church, and chairs. Just before moving there was a chart at the door that stated we had raised 50K, however to this date, no new church has been built, and the only chairs we've seen there were the ones that were at the Old Location (which I am sure was about $800)! To my knowledge no effort has been made to build a church, however he continues to spend money when ever he desires. IE: I remember him attending Morehouse some years ago, he didnt' graduate, and the grades werent that good, (As an employer at morehouse, I have access to certain records) A couple of months ago, I visited the church to hear him brag about attending Harvard! Right! My question was, how is this possible. I later hear thru speaking with membership that they church is paying him a salary that was never approved by anyone, and for him to live in Boston, Fly to/from, etc. When I asked my buddy who approves this? His response is, the CFO! Know I wonder, are they working together or what? In fact non of the members have provided with exspenses for this church since its inception.
Most recent, (two weeks ago) there was a Convocation, in which he apparently used money from the church to pay for his event. I think this type of thing is called co-mingling of funds, which is a major felony! I heard about this because one of the Artist that performed, was a close friend of mine and she shared the fact that the check she received was from the church, not the association.
As stated earlier, the members of this church have no ideai how much they pay pastor allen but many are becoming concerned, but are stupid for staying there.
There are many of the members of this church who live in poverty, however pastor clay lives in a condominum in buckhead until his home is repaired from a fire that took place at the beginning of the year. He and his partner own another home somewhere on the southside of town, but I guess it wasn't good enought for them to stay there while the repairs were completed.
Are these pastors fleecing their flock for their own gain? Yes, and God is not pleased.
Why do these members keep on giving their money? Most of them are servants to him and not God! It's amazing how the run behind this man...Visit once and you'll see exactly what I am sharing. It's one big circus, he walks in with about 10 people behind him!
I was told of one elder who spoke against Pastor clay about the money he was stealing" and he was ran away from the church.
Its sad when people are that caught up until they are not attentive to the nature processes in life. Before joining any church I would suggest, ask about structure of the church? Is there a board? Who does the pastor report to? If you don't get good answers, they you may want to leave...quick! Pay close attention to the pastor willingness to be submissive?
Since, leaving this church I've not fellowshiped with anyone, because of fear of being fooled again.
