With it finally sinking in that mayor Willie Herenton will not be seeking another term as mayor of the city of Memphis Keith McGee the CAO of the city and a Herenton appointee has decided to retire after nearly 30 years of service to the city.
McGee is leading the pack of other appointees who will be leaving early to find new jobs knowing that their jobs end in 2011 and maybe sooner if the mayor decides to step down now that he has become a candidate for the U.S. Congress.
Appointees serve at the pleasure of the mayor and can only be removed by him,But all Herenton appointees know that with the election of a new mayor that they all will be looking for a job so instead of waiting for the hammer to drop many appointees will be searching for new jobs now. McGee announced on Wednesday that he has chosen to retire and to look after the flock he pastors at St. Mark Baptist Church in Drummonds Tennessee just north of Millington.
