Kenneth Whalum Jr. has finally shown the real reason that he ran for a school board position.that is to set the stage to run for mayor of Memphis. Whalum like others has used the school board position to muster support for himself and himself alone.
It has been known for several years that the pastor of the Olivet Church was having meetings to prepare for his bid to become mayor and work in the same building as his wife Shelia Lee Whalum who works in finance and was placed there when her relative Joseph Lee headed up the city's finance department.
Whalum has used the children who attend Memphis City Schools as a ploy in his plot to become mayor.It was never his idea to remain in office and fight for the children, He has used his so called interest in the welfare of children to further his agenda to become mayor. Outside of his congregation Whalum will find it hard to fool the community into believing that he's the best choice to lead this city.
Looking at one of his sermon titles(marquee) I wonder if this ia a question that he ask young children as he makes his rounds as a school board member?
By the way all you Christians and church folk who support the good pastor may want to watch this interview with Whalum entitled "Jesus was a Whore".

I dont it is fare what you are saying about Mr. Whalum. I find him to be very supportive of the MCS system and the Children of Shelby County. I have never met the Man but seeing him on TV i see him to be REAL. I am not sure posting such things about this Man is true. Let People make up their own mind about him in the race. And what does his Wife have to do with this. Why bring her Name up and where she works into this ? From what i hear and see about Pastor Whalum he can hold his own and will not allow you to bash his Name in such ways.

Pastor Whalum should continue to fight for the children. The Mayors office is no place for him. He reminds me of Dr. Herenton. Thad, we can make up our own minds. Everyone in their right mind already know what Whalum was up to and about his antics. I don't think I could take one day of Whalum in office. I hope this race is over soon, Ha! it hasn't even started. What a waste of energy. If Dr. Herenton knew that he was not going to complete his full term, then he shouldn't have ran for office. He didn't want anyone else to run this city. In the meantime, the city has gone to hell in a hand basket because he didn't run it.
Mr. Whalum, I know that you read this blog. Please stay on the school board. Continue to preach the gospel rather than divide this city. Oh! I've heard you preach and I pray that's the gospel you're preaching. You have a lot of young people listening and believing every word that comes from your lips. Be careful.

The way u portray our pastor is wrong, you are just a hater! He works hard to support our children and our community. Just because he finds out ways to reach to young people in creative ways doesn't mean he's a bad preacher. I believe he would be a good major because he works hard and he always succeeds in things you say he can't do.

I know I'm late on this posting but I couldn't pass on responding to the article & the other responses.
So...he's on the school board & now he wants to run for Mayor, what is so wrong with that? Do you know him? These assumptions that you make about him, do you know these things to be fact? Have you asked him any of these questions that you assume are fact? We as a race are constantly preaching about not judging each other and making assumptions of others, yet the article & negative statements on this blog aren't doing anything but judging a man that you probably don't even know. Are we contradicting ourselves?
I am a teacher of elementary students & I always tell my students that if you don't know the answer to a question, don't be afraid to ask. This sounds like common sense huh? Well, why do we as "ADULTS" find it difficult to practice such a simple task?
