In reporting the story that county mayor A.C. Wharton has called for an investigation into how his Mercedes may have gotten tags without going through inspection, The Commercial Appeal did not mention that the mayor's Benz is an old Benz that the mayor does not drive.
The county affords the mayor with a Cadillac which is what the mayor is seen driving or being driven in. It is very possible that the mayor may not have known what his gofer had done.
The C.A. started inquiring about Wharton after reading on this site last week that city council woman Wanda Halbert had told me after it was reported that her car had not gone through inspection for several years that she had heard that Wharton car had not been inspected as well.
After being given the statement by Halbert I call the mayor's office and spoke with his assistant Bobby White because the mayor was out of town. Mr. White thanked me for calling and stated that to the best of his knowledge that the mayor's car had went through inspection but stated that he was going to check into the matter. he later returned a call to me and stated that he had spoken with the mayor who stated that he was totally unaware of his cars not being inspected but that the mayor would may sure that all was aboard board.
I think that the mayor has done the correct thing in coming forth and stating that an employee of his may have done done the proper thing. The mayor if he wanted to cover up any wrong doings could have easily done so without starting an investigation.
Carol Chumney's call for a special investigation is purely political and nothing else. She knows that he has to face him in her bid for mayor of Memphis and is attempting to use this incident to make Wharton appear to be corrupt and attempting to cover up the non inspection of a old Benz that he does not drive. This whole issue is a whole lot about nothing

How would Halbert know about Wharton's old car that he does not drive UNLESS they had discussed it at some point in time?

Please understand I owe no politician anything so I dont have to worry about what one of them thinks,and neither do I care what you think. As for Wharton and Halbert in the CA's article after if was found that her car had not been through inspection stated that she was not the only politician whose car had not gone through inspection but when I asked her who she knew for a fact had not gone through inspection she could not give me a name only stating that she had HEARD that Wharton's tags were delivered to him at his office.
I have an old benz to, do I have to take it to get it inspected. Lawyers don’t ask questions that they don’t already know the answer to . The so called investigation is already in the bag. You are right nothing to do about nothing because nothing will be done about it. I saw A C Wharton on tv last night he acted as if he was above us and according to you he is. I am a 60 year old black man and I have been around long enough to know that some of us are in the house. A C is in the house. He knows where the bodies are, he knows what to say ,what not to say and who to say it to.

Wharton is part of that old guard you continue to talk about. Herenton is also part of that old guard. Memphis will not move forward as a city unless they get rid of these old negroes. We need some new blood in Memphis politics, not the Fords, Herenton, or Wharton.
Herenton I continue to say has done alot in his past. Wharton has also, and even the Fords . But it is time to move on and give some new people a shot. Some of these up and coming new cities have given the younger generation a shot in becoming there new leaders of tomorrow.
I love your show Thad and think you are an amazing leader that already has helped Memphis go in a new direction. But for the life of me, I do not know why you are getting behind Herenton or Wharton. To me they are for everything that you are against.
I watched Herenton stand down when people in the city were upset about the Nathan Bedford Forrest statue.I see him stand down when race issues come to the fore front in this city. I see him stand down when you have city employees violating the trust of tax payers. I see stand down and not say anything about the cities high crime rate. He still keeps Larry Godwin(Chico) in his position like he is doing a good job. What about Blue Crush(Blue Flush)? This is your beliefs on these issues Thad. How can you just change your tune for these people?
I respect you and I am trying to understand, but I can not get into these guys. Memphis is a mess now and it has alot to do with Herenton, Wharton, Fords, and alot of other has been negroes.
I see these elected officials get over on car tags, utilities, dui's and other crimes, and it literally makes me want to throw up. Why should I care if any one of these horrible individuals get defeated by a white man or women. My feelings are that it is worse when my people violate my trust. My people should know the pain of coming up in our culture, so when they rob the tax payer or do something else that is unethical it makes it worse in my opinion. So I will never vote just based on race or party.

Do you believe it is in the best interest of the citziens to allow Herenton and Wharton to juggle the office of Mayor of Memphis between them? You have made many of comment stating that that you felt the Mayor of Memphis was not offering good leadership to its citizenery. Example being, the retaining of Director Godwin. You have stated that Director Godwin was not fighting crime effectively. Why then, should citizens of Memphis believe that the Mayor will provide the necessary leadership in Congress, if he has foregotten how to replace the Police Director with effective leadership?

It don't really matter who wins the mayor race cuz none of them is that different from the other as far as a career in playng dirty politics. And that means, if good change can come, it's gonna be long a slow getting here. It's not one person, one mayor, who's gonna turn around Memphis, it's the collective will of Memphians who have to want good changes and not the daily practice of just here to "Getz Minez" attitude.
One good change I'm hoping for is Larry Godwin better start looking for a new job cause his ass is grass about to get cut. His legend in his own mind will go down as his leadership of MPD brought Memphis to all time National high rankings in violent crime and he has got to take responsibility for that because his days of the smoke mirrors stats act is oveh! I would recommend him for a security guard job at a local bank but since he attracts violent crime rates - No Thanks!
Elected officials should be held to a higher standard with no exceptions or special privileges. We need to hold them all accountable and remind them that they are public servants. This is not directed at any one elected official - it is meant for all.

Memphis needs an up front agressive mayor, not some laid back Pullman porter type as is the personna of A. C. Wharton.
Herenton is a laid back mayor doing his side deals at the expense of the public while taking care of his cronies by really stiffing the population. May the Lord see that he is jailed, ASAP.
