Memphis City Court Clerk Thomas Long announced to The Memphis Daily News that he will be a candidate for Shelby County Clerk next year. But the question is why. Long makes more money as the city court clerk than he will make as county clerk, His present term is not up until 2011,He announced last year on my radio program that he wanted to be mayor, So what is ready behind his decision to run for the position that is presently held by Debbie Stamson.
Could the reason that Long wants to jump ship and receive lesser pay due to the fact that the Shelby County Clerk has more appointed positions to give to friends then the City Court Clerk?
But whatever his reasoning the man known for being a numbers man can not be considered the front runner just because he has been in politics for a while. While he has name recognition he has never ran a county wide race. Then there is the factor that the other democrat who filed in January of this year has as much or more name recognition as Long.
Wrestling promoter and businessman Corey Maclin who is has been seen on Tv each week for 20 years brings not only a name to the public but a face as well. Those outside of politics will recognize Maclin much easier than Long. Long who is known to be a lazy campaigner will have to catch up with Maclin who has been on the campaign trail since the first of the year.
It is not for sure that Long can even count on the support of other elected officials for support. At a campaign rally to raise funds held for Maclin in Northhaven on this past Saturday, Shelby County Sheriff Mark Luttrell , County Assessor Cheyenne Johnson, And County Trustee Paul Matilla were present along with many other political figures.
Maclin having a TV program that is watched by thousands each week has drawn many of the candidates for office next year to him because he has allowed them to be seen on his wrestling program thus this helps those candidates while Long has nothing to offer.
Long will also have a problem raising money because the smart money is going to go to the candidate that contributors with the big money thinks has the best chance of winning and even though Maclin is brand new to politics he's likable, has a message,name recognition that crosses racial lines, And is not a part of the ole negro brigade of poli-trick-ans. Contributors also know that Long will have to campaign on why he is running for office when he has not fulfilled his promise to city voters by finishing his term. He will also have to convince voters that he can campaign and maintain his city job. Plus he will have to convince the entire county that he will show up for work because he is known to spend more time on the golf course then at his City Court Clerk office.
Long has been holding a Wednesday evening bid-whiz gathering at a Whitehaven club for about the last two months and has yet to get 50 people present to pay the $5.00 admission to get in. The card game is being used as a fund raiser for his campaign but if he's not careful he make become the Big Joker.

Elitist Socialite Thomas Long showed up at last night's Democratic Party Executive Committee meeting talking about "driving while you pay" for 18 year olds, then he announced his plans to run for the County Clerk position. I am sure your readers already know the County Clerk office is where you get Auto Tags... not pay traffic fines!
He makes $122,000 now as City Court Clerk; the County Clerk position pays $107,000. The reason for these plans are two... his wife told him he needs a job and if he can run and win the County Clerk position in 2010 then he would have a JOB just in case he ran for Memphis Mayor in 2011 and lost. (Note: he would be prohibited from running for Memphis Mayor and Memphis City Court Clerk at the same time… which are both up for election in 2011... so if he ran for Mayor and lost his ass would be out of a JOB!)
Help him out y'all... let him LOSE this year and save ourselves a lot of special election replacement bullshit for the next two years just to satisfy his personal ambitions!

If a large percent of a cities population is on the dole and is not too bright, then you end up with a worthless Mayor and city council, all because of votes guided by name recognition and color.
The majority stupid voters of Memphis will never get out of the hole they have put themselves into resulting form their stupidity and the stupidity of those they elect.

Maclin is the first addition of a an ad on this blog in a number of weeks. Next thing we will see is a paid political ad in Willie's run for congress followed by another Maclin like endorsement by Thaddeus Matthews, the Memphis Stooge as he turns hook, line and stinker back to Willie Herenton just for a few bucks.

I see Thomas is at work on the site trying to smear Corey Maclin but it will not work with the masses because he's a part of the group in the Black community that has promoted vote for who you know and this very fact will bite Long in his life, maybe he can explain why he's willing to give up $15,000 in pay reduction as the city clerk. Could it be that he wants tax payers to pay him a city pension as well as a county salary?

This would be enough to deny anyone an election. City and County government pensions have been abused for years in this area.
A pension should be paid only when you are ready to hang it up from the work force. The unions like to call it delayed wages, but then the unions are the reason their workers can't compete with foreign labor who are willing to earn their keep. Say, go for outsourcing until the labor unions continue their downslide even if Obama is trying to give them a life of their own at the expense of those who are willing to stand on their own two feet.

Don't sell the backing of Thaddeus Matthews short as it has been paid for. The people of Memphis and Shelby County who vote regularly are quite capable of looking at all candidates and making an informed choice. But there are the others who do need to be told what to do...so it will depend on who is able to identify and go after that last group.

If Matthews had a speck of character, he would post, "THIS IS A PAID POLITICAL ANNOUNCEMENT" after any political comment that he blurts on this blog or on his foreign language radio infomercial.
People really don't understand corey maclin..this man is self- made and has been a millionaire for a few years now..he's no dummy!
