Odd that you think Lawler would have to "work full time" but have no problem with Mr. Potato Head being a part-time mayor. Aside from his clandestine "deals", he is active in his outside investments/real estate business. He also seems to be absent after every disaster that hits.
There is no way I would even consider voting for Lawler.

At least Lawler is his own man with his own motives. He is a true Memphian and probably has some interesting ideas. As long as a candidate is independent and not just a puppet, I'll at least hear them out.

Matthews could care less about Ford's advertising bucks from weeks past as he has already spent them buying flesh on the street corners. Was listening to your radio comments regarding the mayoral race. I agree that the field is going to be crowded with blacks on account of egos which may allow a white candidate to win. My only problem w/ the election of a white mayor is that it may aid Herenton in the race against Cohen. Some may be of the opinion that Memphis can't have both a white mayor and congressman.
Of the black folks who have talked about getting into the race, my first choice is Ed Ford. I've soured on Wharton and Lowery in recent days. Mr. Ford may have had his problems but I believe he's sincere in his commitment to public service.

Matthews just wants another white candidate in the race so as to split the white vote as he knows the black voters will be all over the black board as they vote. They just wander in the polling place not thinking beyond the free fried chicken wings and tee shirts they received from accepting the cheap freebies of the many jobless African Americans that will be competing in the race of the colors.
Will any of the jailed politicians of a few years back be released as this community believes that their politicians merit election if they have an extended rap sheet?
Looking forward to the 60% majority splitting their vote among five or six bazaar candidates with one of them getting as much as 15% of the vote. The good times for Memphis may be just around the corner. It will take time to make city hall inhabitable by decent and bathed citizens.
