With Jerry"The King" Lawler bidding to become the next mayor of Memphis when Willie Herenton retires on July 30,2009, neither Kemp Conrad,Jim Strickland or Carol Chumney has a lock on the White vote. As of this writing over 10,000 viewers have listened to my interview with lawler on Wednesday and I have received calls and emails stating that Lawler makes a lot of sense in the things he said.Lawler in the race also means that he has the ability to do something that Strickland and Conrad have no chances of doing and that is picking up Black support and Black votes. Many in the Black community feel that with the large number of Blacks getting in the race who are professional poli-trick-ans a professional wrestler with a common sense approach seems to be the better candidate,
It is no doubt that this race is a racial one for both Blacks and Whites,and many Whites would like to see the city lead again by a White. Many Whites will vote for Lawler because they know that out of the Whites in the race that he has the most name power and the ability to draw enough black votes to cause a win.
Whites also know that A.C. Wharton no longer can be looked upon as the lead candidate even though he may have money and a organization in place. They know with Carpenter who seems to have the Herenton organization behind him along with many Black ministers including Bishop Graves of the Methodist Church Wharton has lost numbers in the Black community. They also know that with K.T.Whalum who pastors a large Black congregation in the race the numbers for Wharton dwindle even farther. But they know even though some hate to admit it Lawler will bring out the White vote that normally stays at home while picking up a portion of Black vote that no other White in the race can obtain.
Lawler has no intentions of getting out the race and I'm sure that County Commissioner Mike Carpenter's snub last week when he didn't invite him to a candidate's forum stating that he didn't take Lawler as a serious candidate has the king now mad enough to pull the strap down and throw fire in the face of the commissioner. The race for mayor is any one's to win who can get the numbers out and professional poli-trick-ans could just get body slammed by Lawler

I'll give it a few weeks, a few months and ole realiable Thad will be flip flopping once again for the 30 pieces of silver.

Jerry Lawler is a candidate who is seen without color - I give him that. As many little black kids grew up watching him as white ones did. He is a longtime Memphian born and raised who has kids still living here. The race card will have a MAJOR effect on this race whether we like it or not. I like Jerry's wild card factor.
I am ready for anybody other the Herenton & Company!!!!
Lawler doesn't have a real card in the race. His name might be on the ballot but as far as being a real wild card, that is false. No one can even imagine this guy running the city. I'd rather have Bozo the Clown than Lawler.
So what qualifications does he actually possess to be a candidate for mayor of memphis. Just because he rassled a bit, doesn't mean that he is fit for the political arena. Hell, he wasn't even THAT good! No signature moves! Pull down the strap? What nonsense!! Give me a break!!!
Screw Lawler! Give us credible candidates for mayor and let's get this damned city back on track.
There are some Police Lieutenants reportly starting the training academy this morning who won a law suit against Larry Godwin. They are also receiving back pay. There are several discrimantion laws that minorities are winning that is causing the city a lot of money. Godwin has been discrimanting against minorities since he's been the director. The mayor knows this but done nothing. If Lawler agrees to get rid of Godwin, he has my vote.
I'm so glad that most voters both black an white are not wrestling fans. this man is a joke. I would never vote for anyone because of thier name. we need a mayor of memphis that is qualified to take this city forward. memphis at one time was voted the cleanist,quietist an best city in the USA to live because of our low crime,etc. we are just the opposite of that now. Our ppl now think of the salary an not the harm they are doing to the city. Everybody who says they are qualified to be mayor is not. we can vote like fools if we want to but just remember that after the election an before the election is two differant frames of mind. what i.m saying is THINK BEFORE YOU VOTE.
Ask Lawler if he will still go to the Gold Club as Mayor.
If Lawler is using common sense, why would he want to give up his job in the WWE making over $200,000 a year for the mayor's job for maybe two years making a lot less money.

Jerry Lawler would be no improvement over Willie Herenton. Memphis needs a business leader at City Hall to bring industry and manufacturing back to Memphis.Memphis does not need some washed out fake ass wrestler

Me and my wife enjoyed watching you do your show at the African house this past Friday. It was an awesome experience for both me and her to be surrounded by the creation that Mr Anthony Elmore put together.
On a nother subject, I still feel like Lawler is a real joke and you would have to be an black idiot to vote for a white candidate that does not even recognize your community. Lawler thinks that the playing field is already level and believes that doing nothing for the community will make the problems there go away. He has a neoconservative philosophy that has helped to put the black community where it is right now, his philosophy will not allow him to implement the programs that this community needs to level the playing field. I have yet to hear what he has done to make things fair in this community. He is no diffrent than Dick Hackett and other white mayors that have controlled this city in the past.
Lawler will not get black voters because black folks know that he is not the uniter that he claims to be. I would like to get answers Thad of where he has helped to unite this community. Dont tell me in entertainment, Im talking about in real people lives. He does not have the track record of doing it and his white backers are not going to let him do it as mayor.
I would say the biggest negative about Lawler is that he agreed to go on Thug's racist radio program.
