According to Memphis city council woman Wanda Halbert she met on Saturday with county mayor A.C. Wharton. The meeting took place very publicly at Perkins Restaurant on Poplar. Halbert states that Wharton did not ask her not to enter the upcoming special election for mayor of Memphis but presented his ideas and sought hers.There are those in political circles that state that Wharton is not versed on issues dealing with Memphis city government and meeting with persons to gather their ideas and views so as to be able to create a platform for himself.
While Halbert would not go into everything that was discussed at the meeting she did state that she has not made up her mind if she plans to run for mayor or not.

A C is not Memphis Mayor yet so why is he meeting with people like he is. People don't be fool by this idiot. He is trying like a good politian should do, make it look like he is in control. AC Wharton is a smart man. By running for mayor now, if he lost he could run again in 2011. If Wanda Halbert entered the race, she would take votes from him. AC would be some what like the incumbent and now would be the perfect time to run.
We would like to know what would he do different to change the city's image of being one of the most dangerous cities with the highest crime rate. In my neighborhood there are ten crack houses that have been operating for years without any deterrence from the police. The same junkies are walking the streets everyday stealing from us to support their habits. I remember years ago when crack houses were hit everyday and crack heads were arrested daily for serving the narcs. Back then memphis was one of the safest cities but not anymore. Thats something to think about mayor.
Thad, It is of no importance that A.C. Wharton is meeting with potential candidates for Mayor of the City of Memphis. We in the Black community need to stay focus on Myron Lowrey and what he plan on doing while he is acting Mayor of Memphis. We need to stay focus.
Myron has shown by his actions that he is Power Hungry. From this point on we need to make sure our tax dollars benefit the citizens of Memphis. None of our elected officials past or present has done anything to benefit the Black Tax payers of the City of Memphis. All they have done is to help White developers suck this city dry. We invested tax dollars to remodel the Pyramid and it now sits empty. Because our elected officials entered into a no compete clause the midsouth coliseum and the Pyramid are wasted space. All these individuals that plan on running for Mayor what have they been doing in the Black Community. It seems to me when any one in our community has a problem, who do they call. They always call Thaddeus Matthews. And you know why people call you, it is because you try to respond to their needs. When you were out there trying to raise money for the family whose house was demolished when a tree fell on it, the only one that was out their with you was Edmund Ford Jr. Thad, A.C. Wharton may think he has a lock on being the next Mayor of Memphis, but there is a long shot in this race; and that is Edmund Ford Sr. In his funeral business Mr. Ford has probably handled quite a few funerals here in Memphis. From all the things that you have said that he has done to help families with limited financial means bury their love ones, I believe that these people will vote for him. I also believe that they will try to convince their family members and friends to vote for him. Mr. Ford may not have a financial money machine backing him, but one thing that he does have going for him is that he is a compassionate person and he has a history with the Black Community. I am quite sure if he can go up against the F.B.I. and win, he can also go against the status quo and win.
Wanda Halbert is truly disliked by all council members. She thinks of herself more than she should. She constantly allege discrimination when it does not exist. The black community should seriously look at Ms. Halbert, this lady is truly CRAZY. our community should stop enabling her in her stupidity.
Ms. Halbert should also tell her non criminal son to stop soliciting underage boys for sexual favors. Halbert has many personal problems, not just the ones involving her thugged out criminal son. interesting Wanda met with AC especially since she is the one that snitched him out regarding his failure to properly register his vehicles.

Thad, our people need a reality check, no politician Black or White is going to do anything to benefit Blacks or poor Whites. Politicians on both sides uses racial divisions to their advantage. As long as Blacks and Whites are focused on each other the Politicians are robbing us blind. For instance when the politicians in Washington bailed out all those banks with tax payers money, then those same banks turned around raised the interest rates on customers with good credit that have never been late. When they tried to raise my rate, I called them up and paid my credit card off and closed my account. And I am a Black person. The person on the phone was so surprised to find that I had the financial means to do that. Another credit card company tried to do the same thing and when I called them and told them I wanted to close my account they begged me not to and told me that since I been a with them a long time these new rules didn't apply to me. What I am saying is that tax payers need to let their elected official know what their needs are and if you don't stand up for yourself nobody else will. I could have taken the attitude that it's the credit card company so I have no choice but to accept it. By me letting the credit card company know that I didn't need them, they needed me their attitude change. Once the citizens of Memphis get it into their heads that the politicians need them things at City Hall will change. The Black citizens of Memphis made Mayor Willie Herenton. The citizens of Memphis gave him the Mayorship, he didn't earn it. Black people need to let these politicians know that our survival does not depend on them. We thrive economically when we take our money and spend it in our community. We have to teach our Black business owners that they have to offer a good product and give good customer service. So they met in a very public place. Don't see nothing wrong here other than two leaders sharing ideas. I think the meeting helps AC to be seen being civil and having a dialogue with a someone who previously had harsh criticism for him. My vote still goes to AC but if Wanda promises to fire Godwin and Godwin's cowboys the first day in office I might just switch. What is it about Memphis in that there would even be a Wanda Halbert on the city council? This doesn't say much for the voters. Are her supporters as worthless as she appears to be? I don't think so. What I think is that her supporters don't think. Sure hope they can do better in the upcoming election and just outright display their good judgement by giving her a sounding whipping.
Speaking of the upcoming elections and those that would cast a vote in the congressional race. Look at the mess this city is in. Every where you turn in government there have been serious crimes committed, officials have been jailed and taxes are out of sight compared to other cities in Tennessee and this city has nothing to show for it.
Willie Herenton is abandoning the sinking ship he has created and at a time that will bring about one special election and possibly two if Wharton is elected the city mayor.
We are all familiar with the crimes Willie has committed. Surely we don't want to send him to Washington where he will stand out like a stink bomb in a crowed theater. Just hissing and fuming without his overpaid body guards to blow smoke up his frame.
As an educated black citizen I am appalled by the comments on this site. Why do Memphis' black residents have no real chance? Because you could no more unite than could a swarm of insects. It's easy to elect the "white" candidate, or the one backed by the white comunity, because in the white community the voters work together and focus on substantive issues.
