Relatives of Alta Ware a art teacher at Fairley High School have reached out to me to expose the brutal beating see received from a student Thursday in her class room. Ware has received a letter from Memphis City Schools telling her not to speak to the media,In other words MCS is trying to cover up the attack.
Relatives state that Ware was attacked by student Xavier Stewart and as the woman tried to get to a button on the wall to call the office I'm told that Stewart told the woman as he beat her "Bitch Ain't Nobody Coming To Help Yo Ass" and rung the bell himself and just like he said no help answered or came to her rescue.
The relatives state that the principle Clint Jackson did not call the police and the police were only called after Ware arrived at the hospital and that call was made by family members. The relatives state that the principle stated that the student was a "Special needs" child and should go to detention.
I often hear of cases of violence against teachers in MCS but there is a strict policy of covering up these acts. Since I know that the City of Memphis police read this site someone needs to investigate this matter and school board members should seek to find out why Kriner Cash is covering this issue and other issues of violence up.

What happened to the Fairley High School art teacher should come as no surprise to anybody familiar with the inner workings of discipline in Memnphis City Schools. You see, teachers in general remain simply at the bottom of the food chain, often getting less respect from the building principal than school janitors. One of the reasons for the lack of respect that teachers receive is because the principal feels that all teachers should be able to handle all classroom discipline problems or else be considered a "weak" teacher. Send too many students to the office and the principal will not like it. Probably the art teacher had problems with this student before she was attacked and had received little or no help from the principal. This is speculation, of course, but it could be true. Sometimes as long as the principal himself is not attacked, he could care less about what happewns to a teacher.

At one of the schools out east in Memphis City Schools, a young male teacher escorting a disruptive student to the principal's office was jumped and severely beaten by the hoodlum's fellow gang members. The only disciplinary action taken against the attackers was to transfer them to other MCS schools where they could beat up other teachers. There is simply no excuse in MCS for violence against school personnel. Students who engage in this kind of deviant behaviour should be permanently expelled and not allowed to hide behind a "special needs" classification. As a former educator at one of the "failing middle/high schools" I can say the current system is completely ineffective in many areas - elementary schools need to be under tighter control - as the article pointed out the feeder schools are failing, then sending students on to high schools, who are then failing - how does a high school teacher combat 8+ years of "maleducation" (think malnutrition, but apply it to education - they aren't getting what they truly need). On top of that, NCLB and AYP allows students to be "passed up" due to their age--- yes there are 15 years olds who can't/haven't passed 6th grade being put up to 7th grade. A year or two go by, they can't pass 7th grade (how could they, they couldn't pass 6th) and they are then passed on to 9th grade - where guess what THEY CANNOT PASS!! And we wonder what's going on and why children are failing and dropping out, on top of why are schools are being "put on the list." I quit this past year because a senior student failed my English class, took a course recovery program offered called PLATO, and passed the PLATO - however he didn't maintain the grade he needed for the PLATO to apply YET he was allowed to graduate and walk across the stage with everyone who achieved that milestone legitimately! So, we've passed another child who didn’t deserve it. I thought NCLB was a way to make sure kids got their education - apparently that means (at least some MCS schools behave as though it does) we spoon feed them their education and pass them on at a huge disadvantage... legally perpetuating the cycle of poverty. Let's take a look at your post and analyze the numerous grammatical errors you wrote, shall we. First,let's start with the mis-spelled words this is not how you spell bizzness (Business) brotha (brother), neede (need),chillren (children), skool (school), basix (basic). "I is" should have been " I am". "Let them" should have been "Let those". There are too many errors to name. From simply reading this post, I can tell that you are not a teacher and that you are probably a friend of the student or his parent. If you are a friend, stay in school. Get all the education you can. From your inablitity to type in regular English in a public forum, shows me that you need to be taught. If you are the parent or relative, go back to school. I saw this when I went to pick up my art project from Ms. Ware. Mr. Taylor was there instantly when that boy hit the button; I also saw Mr. Eason, Mr. Clayton, Mr. Mahannah, Mr. Hunter, and Officer Tookie come. There's a lot of wild kids at Fairley, but they get dealt with.
When will we stop holding up for these bad unruly children. When they are not trained at home, they are not expected to act like human beings when they leave home. The bible says to train up a child in the way they should go. We are not training them right because the momma and daddys are still trying to ahng out in the clubs instead of teaching them at the house how to conduct themselves. If I thought about raising my hand to hit any adult I would need more than special education for my mother and father to get off of my butt. Think about more excuses for unruly behavior!!!!

Some time wasting dreamer in a letter to the editor published in this morning's [09/26/2009] Commercial Appeal referenced the Memphis City School systems needs to be able to give a world class education.
No way, in city made up of third class citizens where decent people have a priority of seeing that their children get a private school education so as to avoid the hoodlums in the Memphis City School System. Eighty percent of the students in the Memphis School System couldn't make it in the top 50% of the private schools. Sixty percent couldn't make it the balance of the private schools.
Let's face it, Dr. Cash was right, pass 'em, get 'em out so that the Federal Government can take care of those that can't hack it. Jail or food stamps and a warm blanket would keep a few, not many, from creeping up behind us and grabbing our purses after they knock us down.
The Commercial Appeal could triple the size of it's local news section if it posted all the calls to 911 for a previous twenty four hour period. The posting might be from several periods earlier due to the meager staffing at our local dodger producer.
K. Cash is only in Memphis to collect Cash....he doesn't give a damn about kids....the school board members who elected him need their asses lined up and beated.

My concern is that violence as defined by the great 20th Century Philosopher is mental, emotional, physical, and psychological abuse. MCS tries to teach this theory but this same practice is widely used to keep their employees in check. Until, we have the rights to have our grievances redressed by our government; we will continue to see the same abusive practice enforced. These practices are a violation of MCS' employees rights to equal protection of the law.
By requiring their employees to show loyalty by remaining silent on issues that are negatively efforting our community is illegal. These deceptive practices should be exposed and dealt with in a mature, legal manner. MCS abusive practices have caused me to suffer mental, emotional, physical, and psychological abuse and these injustices will be exposed.
