Myron Lousy recently fired the law firm of Ricky Wilkins for what he calls excessive legal fees,But turned over the Beale Street/John Elkington case over to the one of the largest and most expensive firms in the state. The question has been asked why did Lousy fire Wilkins and then retain the law firm of Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz?
The answer is very simple, to show the White community for his own political agenda how good he is at going after Blacks that were a part of the Herenton administration. Temp mayor Myron Lousy attacked city attorney Elbert Jefferson for the payment of outside legal fees to attorney Wilkins. In fact Lousy used the fees as the reason to terminate his services on the Beale Street issue. The firing of Wilkins firing was personal and political ,Because if it was about fees why was Wilkins law firm fired and the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman,Caldwell,& Berkowitz hired?
It's not Black law firms that's making the most off of the taxpayers of Memphis as Lousy wants portrayed but White ones. I have provide proof from MLGW that since 2005 taxpayers have paid the Baker Donelson,Caldwell,& Berkowitz nearly $5 million dollars.I requested and receive through MLGW the list of attorneys that the citizen owned utility company has used since 2005 and the Baker,Donelson,Caldwell & Berkowitz firm leads the pack each year. I have provided MLGW documents that will show that in 2005 the law firm was paid $19,544.45, In 2006, $395,209.86, In 2007 $2,390,489.80,In 2008 $1,248,733.50.and thus far this year $32,099.21
I have also provided documents of resolutions that show the increase of hourly rates that MLGW is paying this law firm including the April 16,2009 resolution where the hourly rate is broke down as follows; Shareholders $230,Associates $200, Paralegals $100, Leo Bearman $485. The City of Memphis has yet to announce what is being paid to Baker,Donelson,Caldwell,& Berkowitz for taking over the Beale Street issue after Lousy fired Wilkins for his rates. But if there is any comparison to what MLGW is paying Wilkins was charging much less.......Hmmmmm.

Did Myron really have anything to do with what went on in the past? No, but he is working to correct some back door deals where Willie put in some of his stooges from a thin pool of resources. There are probably more qualified attorneys in the Baker firm than all the black firms in the state of TN without regard to their experience and skills.
You don't engage an attorney based on color, you look for skills that suit your needs. Wilkins has accomplished nothing insofar as bringing the Beale Street matter to a conclusion. Finally, some action is being take to get a job done by bringing in the big boys.
The same goes for Memphis Light Gas and Water. There are hundreds of lawyers in Memphis, but only a few with the skills that might be needed for a specific task. To hell with choice by color, go for choice by skill.

I hope that the CA and the rest of the sorry news outlets report this garbage because they would have people believe that the black man is a crook and that he stole money from Memphis. For my fellow citizens, Attorney Jefferson and Attorney Wilkins both had to graduate from a Law School and both attorney's had to pass the Bar examine. The same Bar examine that White's along with other races has to pass in order to practice law. So stop this nonsense that the White Lawyer is somehow more qualified.

Writer is right as long as Jerry Collins is giving his friends penty of MLG&W moneys Mr. Pro Temporary Mayor Lowery will have nothing to say about that. As I think back about Mr. Temporary Mayor he has always been against black people making money. Thad, why is A C Wharton snubbing the residents in the heart of Memphis. Why is he not appearing at the local debates where the public gets to ask the questions. Maybe A C thinks that he got the majority of the White vote and that enough Blacks will vote for him so all he has to do is coast into the Mayor's seat. I think that A C is underestimating Lawler, Chumney, and Carpenter. I think that Mr. Carpenter may do well in the White Community. I think that Mr. Carpenter will do well among small business owners. Memphis needs the right kind of development that would attract tourist of all races. Look at Orlando, Florida. They have all kinds of tourist attractions, large and small. Memphis needs a Amusement and Water Park. We need a Aquarium. We need to keep the Mid South Coliseum and just bring it up to the American With Disabilities standards. Wrestling and other events can be held there. Beale Street is fine. But families with children would welcome these type of attractions. With the economy being the way it is, people would love to stay in their own state and take a vacation. Also families from nearby states would flock to Memphis. With the right type of developement and planning, Memphis could become the Orlando of the Mid-South.
