Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons how has something to do other then going after a city official and that is to bring charges against 23 year old Melanie Dunn and her aunt Marilyn Wilson for the death of 3 year old Ladereon Dunn and for the near death of the two year old child of Dunn.
Dunn and her aunt left the the two toddlers at home while they went to Southland Mall to shop,Her other child is only alive because he was in school. But along with the senseless death of this child and another clinging to life the most heartless statement that I have ever heard a person state was when Marilyn Wilson stated that she saw nothing wrong with the children being left alone and that she needed to get in the house to see if her purse with her food stamp card was okay.
Gibbons should be seeking to file charges of criminal negligent homicide against the two worthless female specimens. Dunn should also lose custody of her other child. Melanie and Dunn and her aunt Marilyn Wilson should be locked away for life or stuck in a burning building with all the doors locked.

We pray for the safety of young children every day and it saddens all of us when a tragedy like this happens. Where are the minds of these foolish women and where are their values? Young children should never be left alone, not even for a few minutes, and there is entirely too much of this negligence going on, especially in the black community. And that damn aunt should be locked up immediately. Because of her stupidity and the stupidity of her sister, we have needlessly lost the life of another innocent child. Plantation Boss Bill Gibbons, who was so quick to stick his ugly nose in the Elbert Jefferson case, apparently is declining to file criminal charges against the two crackhead skanks who left those toddlers home alone with tragic results. Monday’s startling reality in Memphis should be a reminder that we as blacks have a very, very, long way to go, not only as individual but as a race in whole. The Idea that being lazy parents is ok, and using the government as the only mean for support instead of trying to work, is a very hard pill to swallow. What will it take for people to realize that our young brothers and sisters need not only education, but a better understanding that there will always, be consequences for every action in life. Now, I don’t have all the answers as how to solve this indignity in our Memphis community, but I do know we must act fast and soon, before more or our children die by the hand of ignorance, and just plain stupidity.

This is my first time Blogging because I really feel that both of those women shoudl get life with no parole since they did not seem to care about the life of those young children. Being one that has studies child development, there is no way a toddler can repsond to a fire. First of all, the blaze seems only bright and amazing to the toddler. He or she has to be taught as years go by hot hot or do not play with fire. My hurt is really hurt and sadden by this situation. America really needs to think hard about stiffing the penalties for irresponsible parents. We spend to much time on televsion and other places playing politics with our politicians trying to find out what kind of dirt we can find on him or her and our children are constantly being destroyed. I am really curious as to how the District Attorney is going to handle this. After all is said, I know that the child is with the Father in Heaven. the child will never ever worry about having to be left alone anymore. To the child in the hospital, I pray evry moment of the hour, and to the oldest one that was at school, I pray that God continues to watch over you and I also pray that the officals make the punishment fit the crime.
Folks are out calling for blood, but it's all a bunch of crap. I still remember that guy in Bartlett who left his kid in the car because he was "so busy" getting a slap on the wrist. Then there was a more recent story about the lady in DeSoto County losing her's when a guy slammed in the back of her and the poor child was thrown into a ditch. I used to feel sorry for the parents, but now I don't. In all of these cases parents took the easy way out instead of being responsible for their child's welfare first. May be the lady in DeSoto loved that little girl, but being a parent means doing something unpopular for that child and you also. It may be a burden to take a kid with you or lock them in a child seat, but you made them and they are your responsibility. I say lock them all up.
While they had the money for shopping, did she make sure her children had Life Insurance? Last thing on her mind. Waiting to hear the pleas for help bury "HER CHILD".

I am a black man and I find it hard to believe the African American population in Memphis has stooped his low.
Recently, I was ordered to pay child support for my 15 year old son. I came into my son's life when he was 10. I found out 2 years ago, the mother of my son lost custody of the children over 13 years ago because of physical abuse. Also, I found out my son suffered a broken arm at the expense of the mother, his two older brothers dropped out of high school. The same system which feeds these trifling women money is the same system destroying our black communities. Quit rewarding these women!

The first thing I thought of when I heard this is "a 2 an 3 yr old????" I can't even wrap my head around this. How could anyone leave a 2 and 3 yr old alone? At that age children can't even talk well let alone use a phone or know how to get help. Unbelievable. My second thought after hearing this news was that this is only the tip of the iceburg as far as children being neglected, abused, and mistreated in Memphis. And we wonder what is happening to our young people? Children are not dogs. You can't leave them in the backyard while you go out and party. They are conscious, spiritual beings that are internalizing every horrible thing that happens to them. Those horrible events are imprinted on their minds and it changes who they are, it changes their personality. Is it any wonder that they grown up to become sociopaths that have no sympathy for other human beings? Finally, can we for ONCE take race out of this?
I don't care what race these children are...they are CHILDREN. And there are children of all races all over the country that are being neglected and abused that are not being shown on TV. They are living in their own personal hells all alone. Sometimes we need to know the whole story of what's happening. I admit that I was very upset in seeing that these women left those two little children home alone and there is no excuse for this to ever happen; however the aunt has a mental condition and is schizophrenic. The sad part is how the news continuous played her comment that she does not regret the death and her foodstamp card being burned but the other aunt was on another channel news stated that the aunt has a mental condition and does not even receive foodstamps. We just need to pray for all our people.
About a year ago, a stray cat wandered into my yard and had kittens under my shed. I remember watching, fascinated, as she cared for her kittens. She stayed with them 24 hours a day, only leaving them for a few minutes to come to my door to eat. If she sensed they were in danger, she would rush back to them even before she finished eating.
This went on for weeks until one day, she brought them to my door for me to adopt. I only wish that some of the human mothers in our community would be half as diligent raising their children as my cat was. The city would undoubtedly be a better place.

This is not a racial event. There are neglected and abused children of every race in every neighborhood. While this particular event stands out because of the loss of a very young life due to neglect, it is not only occurring in the black culture. Whites, Hispanics and many other cultures are guilty of this same type of child endangerment and neglect.
So what is the cause and solution?
The cause is poverty and poor education. It's not just the black population that suffers these. There are plenty of poor, uneducated whites, Hispanics and others of varying races stuck in this rut of impoverished and uneducated America. Not all poor people neglect and abuse their children, but the stresses and challenges of being poor and uneducated certainly lend to the problem.
It's an issue that has been poorly addressed by the richest country in the world, and it has no simple solution.
Our young people need to be educated in an atmosphere of hope and belief that an education will make a difference in their lives. They need the opportunity to succeed where too often the opportunity to fail prevails. We need to have jobs at a livable wage. We need to have opportunity for our young to succeed and excell. We need a community that steps up and says no to the neglect of our babies and stands by it with punishments that fit these crimes. And we need to stop making so many babies. We should have readily available birth control for sexually active teens. It should be easily available and encouraged. They're going to have sex, but they don't have to have babies. We need to emphasize this in the home with good parenting, and in the schools and clinics. You think just saying no to sex is going to work? Did it work for you?
Finally Matthews, if you're to make a meaningful difference, you must stop being such a racist idiot. You promote self disrespect with your all too often use of the "N" word. You promote the continuation of the lack of education and poverty with your inability to structure a sentence correctly. And you do nothing to help lift those in poverty or lacking in education. Youth minister gets court-ordered leniency in baby death
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A youth minister whose infant daughter died after being left alone in a hot car was allowed Tuesday to avoid trial on a negligent homicide charge.
Prosecutors wanted to take Stephen McKim to trial, but the state Supreme Court ordered them to reconsider his bid for pretrial diversion, which gives first-time offenders a chance to sidestep criminal charges.
District Attorney General Bill Gibbons said he had no choice but to put McKim on diversion. With that move, McKim can avoid trial and have the charge against him dismissed if he stays out of trouble for two years.
McKim's 7-month-old daughter, Mia, died of heat exposure in August 2004 after she was left alone in a car for two hours while her father attended a meeting at Central North Church in suburban Memphis.
Gibbons said he is supporting proposed legislation in Nashville that would change state law to deny pretrial diversion for people accused of negligent or reckless homicide.
"No district attorney should be compelled to grant diversion to a defendant when loss of life is involved," Gibbons said.
The state Supreme Court ruled in January that prosecutors cannot refuse pretrial diversion for qualified defendants just because they think the Legislature was wrong to include that type of offense in the diversion law.
Prosecutors considering pretrial diversion must weigh "any factors tending to reflect accurately upon whether the applying defendant will or will not become a repeat offender," the opinion said.
McKim's application for pretrial diversion pointed out he has no previous criminal record and included a letter of support from his wife, Mias mother.
"In this case, the district attorney general's office denied diversion in part based upon its individual and irrelevant determination that criminally negligent homicide should not be a divertible offense," the court said.
Its sad how they try to prosecute women that are working to take care of their children and leave their children with their biological father and something happens to the child. A so call mother leaves her children home alone to go shopping and they are killed in a fire and she is walking around free. This is so sad the system is so messed up.
